Narwhals can be found in the north-east of the North Atlantic. For this achievement, you simply need to harpoon one. Narwhals are more resilient than other sea creatures, and you may have difficulties killing one. I would suggest investing in one or both of the Harpoon strength and Harpoon storage upgrades for the Morrigan to make this process easier.

When you find one, enter the highlighted circle in the water and hold cn_B to begin the harpooning minigame. This involves spearing a narwhal and following it through an ice field, bracing (hold cn_X) when you approach some chunks of ice. While being towed by it, you need to hit it with more harpoons to bring down it's health and eventually kill it. This is where having the upgrades comes in useful.

It is likely that you will end up detaching from the narwhal at some point during the chase. When that happens, look around the water near the boat for a white patch - this is where the narwhal is about to surface. If it is very close, then it will launch into the boat and knock a bar of health away. What you want to do is try to time your throw so that your spear hits it just as it emerges from the water. Then repeat the chase and brace sequence once again. Equally, it can start a distance away and approach the boat and deal a lot of damage - in this case, listen for the sound of it breaching the water's surface.

The narwhal takes around 15 harpoons to kill, and the default that you start with is 20. Therefore, you can only afford the miss 5 shots, unless you invest in the upgrades.

The video below shows where I was able to find a narwhal, and the process involved with harpooning one.

Very detailed, nice! I just want to know how strong the narwhal is compared to the white whale; I managed to kill the white whale with 15 1-level-upgraded harpoons.

Another thing, I think the sea hunting is made a bit more difficult compared to Black Flag. The sea animals dive in the sea longer and so aiming is harder, plus the small ice bergs can sometimes seriously disrupt the hunting - the white whale used its tail just when I was about to hit an ice berg. I could not throw the harpoon to stop the whale in time and must brace, forcing me to take damage.

General ArcaneI've since upgraded the harpooning stats, and with level 2 armour, level 3 strength and level 2 storage, I was able to take down a narwhal in 9 harpoons and a white whale with 13. So the narwhal is definitely easier. If you managed to take down the white whale with 15 level 1 upgraded harpoons, then I'd say you'll have no problems with a narwhal. I had no upgrades applied in the video guide.

Unfortunately, I've not played Black Flag, so I don't know how the harpooning compares. From what I can tell, in Rogue, the sea is much more murky, which makes it harder to see the creatures, and the ice certainly adds an additional challenge. I would definitely recommend getting the upgrades though - they help a great deal. You get 10 additional harpoons per storage upgrade, and deal significantly more damage with the strength ones, and you'll be able to take more damage with the armour upgrade.

With regards to the white whale - as far as I can tell, there is no way to stop it using its tail in that situation. While it is irritating that you have to let it go, it will not vanish entirely, and will swim at the boat - look for the white patches of water to see where it will surface and throw the harpoon there. If you have a few upgrades it shouldn't be a problem.
