This a solution for defeating the slumber boss at the end of the second castle, not a guide to getting through the castle. I found some guides online but none of them actually detailed a solution to defeating the boss other than videos on youtube so i wanted to do a written guide. Its a pretty simple boss but if you are doing the three hearts no upgrades playthrough it can be annoying.

Basically you have to beat a spider type guy that shoots a laser into the area you are in that is made up of 21 holes some will start empty, others purple and the rest blue and green. The empty ones mean you can place gems into and the purple ones mean that they cannot be moved.

Your job is to redirect the laser he shoots back at him by positioning the gems in a certain order. The greens redirect the beam diagonally and the blue redirects it to the left and right.

It gets tricky as after a certain time red missles will shoot at you that lock on to you that are hard to avoid. During this time the laser will stop temporarily. Also the laser can hurt you so be careful when moving around the area moving gems about.

After you have redirected the beam four times the boss is defeated.

Additionally its worth mentioning that inbetween waves of gems he will come out of his hole and roll around your area trying to squash you. When he does this a little trick is to move into the space where he useually sits, he will most of the time hit the corner of that area missing you and then move away and roll back into his space after one strike at you. If you get chased around the screen he will strike three of four times before he settles back again.

What now follows is a breakdown of where you want to place your gems in the 21 holes.

g = green
b = blue
o = empty or purple

1st set
g o o o o o o
o o o g o o o
o o b o o o o

2nd set
o o o b g o g
o o o o o b o
o o o o o o o

3rd set
g o o b g o o
o o o o o b o
o o g o g o o

4th set
b o o b o o o
g o o o o o g
o g o o o g o

I hope this guide helped.
If you are going for the no upgrades playthrough goodluck, if not dont worry to much the next two castles are hard but not impossible
