First I highly recommend upgrading your lock picking skills to level 3. You cant upgrade this skill until after sequence 9. Also some chests are inaccessible until you get later into the game. So maybe save this until you are done with all the story missions.

It also helps if you have the Assassin Cache. Using that everytime you run out of lockpicks saves the pain of going to the store to buy more (Thanks for the tip Rossticus). I'd also recommend buying the master phantom belt or similar and equipping it, that one gives you 22 lockpicks. (thx for the tip Calex dEUS).

Chests do not appear on your map unless you are within the vicinity of them. Syncing the viewpoints helps but does not reveal all of them. So this is why I recommend (if you have the helix points) buying the Cockades and Chests Map from the Estore (under time saver packs.) This reveals all their locations on the map. Blue and Yellow chests do not count towards this so you do not need to worry about them.

There are two chests I am getting the most questions about so I will post there locations in a brief video below. The one chest requires you to do a line of Paris story missions to get the gears to get in the room under the church. The other is in the northwest of the map in a unmarked sewer entrance.

Please note the chests and Paris story mission are not on my map in the video (because I got them all ready) but I explain and show where they are. Also forgot to mention in the video but you can also buy in the Estore a time saver pack that shows all the Paris Story missions if the one isnt showing up. The unmarked sewer entrance chest is at 1:15 in the video so if you want to fast forward to that one.
