Don't worry, KURAYAMI Mode is nowhere near as hard as AKUMU, in fact, it is quite enjoyable to play and adds an interesting dynamic. This mode kills all the light in the levels as soon as you enter STEM and puts you in almost complete darkness with only your flashlight.

This mode can only be selected after clearing the game on Survival first and can be selected for both New Game and New Game +. To my knowledge, New Game + only carries over your collectibles, as there are no upgrades, and I'm not sure if you can still unlock the achievement in this mode. I played it safe and did a fresh New Game on KURAYAMI.

This mode is not very hard as long as you know your way through the levels and know the enemy routes. I had already played through twice: once as my first time, the second on New Game + to gather missed collectibles. The flashlight has a good area of lighting and it actually doesn't alert enemies so don't be afraid to keep it on.

The hardest part for me is when the Searchlight Creature hunts you while you wait for the elevator. However, it doesn't take long with trial and error and I noticed there is a particular route she takes. Also, the fight with Joseph can be made easier by using distracting electronics scattered around the area. I finished this mode with a clear time of an hour and 26 minutes. Just take your time and keep your wits about you!

MajimaActualWould this be doable for someone who has no capability or interest in doing the main game on Nightmare / Akumu? The original game on Survival is the most I can take for my heart.

K3rd B3rglarIt is definitely doable. I'm currently working through the main game on Akumu and Kurayami was significantly easier. The main difference is the main game has combat in which you can be insta killed, while in this DLC, you don't even confront enemies. The only difference in this mode is no lighting and you can play it exactly like you did on Survival.

K3rd B3rglarTo back that up, I recently finished Akumu and I had a death count of 197 deaths. But in Kurayami, I only had around 15. Much easier!

KalujoI actually found Joseph the hardest. I definitely agree about using the electronics to distract him. I can confirm you can get this on new game +. I just completed it. No upgrades that I'm aware of. Just collectibles carry over.
