This is not a strategy guide for how to get an S rank in this or that contract. Firstly I talk about S ranks in general. The second part is focused on how to save about 60 hours getting through the Special Battles.

Quick note: This can be obtained in Free Mode

To obtain this achievement you must get S rank in 45 story contracts, 27 "Request" contracts and 16 Special Battle contracts. Some of it is challenging. All of it is time consuming. Each of these contracts will be marked with "!" an exclamation point and will be tough to miss.

S RANKS IN GENERAL

S ranks are easily obtained at the start of the game but get harder by the end of the game. The requirements for an S depends on the difficulty of the contract and in some cases, the contract itself (Special Battles' fifty minute clear time is an S? wth?).

Difficulty of a contract is denoted by the number of stars - from 1 to 15. At 15 stars; squads are about lv 75 to 85, base commanders are near or above lv 90, named officers are at or close to lv 100, and the biggest forts have 10/10 defense. Unfortunately, no one has been able to calculate any hard values for ranking at each of the difficulties or for each contract yet, but here are some things to take note of.

There are 4 criteria in an S rank - Clear Time, Total Kills, Total Officer Kills, and Total Bases Captured. These are straight forward, except the following:

Total Officer Kills is for killing HYW officers and Guardians. Guardians are those base commanders that are huge. HYW officers are the guys that appear on the "Target List: Enemy Squad" when you are in a battle with a notable exception ==> other players' Stationed officers are not HYW officers and do not count as an Officer kill. In addition, the killing of a specific HYW officer counts only once, even if that officer comes back and you kill them repeatedly. Finally, you have to be in control of the squad leader that makes the kill to get credit for the HYW officer or the Guardian.

You may have already noticed that you can get final results of say BSSS or SSAS and end up with an overall S, but then there will be other times you get the same BSSS or SSAS and end up only with an A overall score. This is because within each criteria letter there is a low, medium, and high value.

As an example:
- You have low S, when the S figure has been only slightly reached. Say you get 1,510 when 1,500 is needed for S.
- You have a medium S, when the S figure has been largely reached. Say you get 1,700 when 1,500 is needed.
-You have high S, when you are far over the S figure. Say you get 2,000 when only 1,500 is needed.

Using this info you can look at a poor result and focus on boosting specific elements. Go for boosting your S, A, or B line items to a higher level to make up for other criteria that you can't seem to budge. Often the tough number to budge is Total Officer Kills, since the max value possible is fixed on every map and may just barely equal a high A or a low S (I'm looking at you, final Nightmare battle).

SHORTCUT for SPECIAL BATTLES

There are 16 of these things, each is 50 minutes, and their order of appearance is random. The special battle contract appearing in your contract list must be completed successfully before the next special battle contract will appear - there is no way found yet to short circuit this.

Not only will Special Battle contracts appear that you have not played, but also Special Battle contracts that you have already played and S ranked. Can you see where this is going? Using the luck of the draw, this can easily be a 100+ hour grind as you play through special battles, one after the other hoping for that one you need to appear on the list.

Here's the shortcut:

At 10 second before the end of the special battle you are currently in the middle of fighting, back into the contract menu, hit System and create a save. I'll call this an interim save. Let the battle end and you'll load into the tavern. Check the contract list. If the newest special battle contract that is posted is not the one that you need, quit HYW to the game's Main Menu, start back up HYW, load up your interim save, let the battle end, load into the tavern, check the board. Repeat this until you get a result you want.
