The current tutorial word named “Elytra” has everything you need.

Open a new tutorial world, skip the introduction by pressing “B” then make your way into the tutorial area. In the miniature cave by the red stone area there is a crate that has a Iron Pickaxe in it (among other items). Take the Iron Pickaxe to the beacon (the ray of light shining into the sky) and mine one of the large blue blocks under it. Then go to a crafting table to turn the diamond block into diamonds.

Now bring in a friend or second controller, put the diamond in your onscreen inventory, select it and press “B” to throw it.
