How to unlock the Passing the Time achievement

This will more than likely be the last achievement you get in the game. It requires you to play for 100 Minecraft days, which is equal to 33.3 hours of playtime. If you play Minecraft regularly, this should come naturally, as 33.3 hours is not too much time. But if you're just in it for the gamerscore, the best way to come about doing this is to set up an online game, with it set to 'invite only'. Once that's done, load up a survival world on peaceful and find a nice place to stand. It really doesn't matter where. From this point, all you have to do is hang out for however many hours you have left to do. I'd suggest doing this overnight, or while you're not at home. Once you're in the game, I'd suggest turning off your controller, to avoid wasting battery power. Since it's an online game, your controller being turned off will not stop the day-cycle so you can still work towards this achievement. After you've played for the required amount of time, the achievement will pop and you're good to go.

EDIT: As you may be able to tell from the comments, this achievement is extremely buggy. It works for some but not for others. If you can't get it to unlock, try the generic troubleshooting, such as clearing the cache, making a new world and starting over, disconnecting and reconnecting you account, etc. If all else fails, contact xbox support here: http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-360/games/minecraft-xbox-... by making a thread. If you see a thread already there for it, use that thread to post the issue. If they realize how many people are having the same problem, it'll have a better chance of getting noticed and forwarded to 4j Studios.

JuggaloMaggotLPDoes anyone know if the tutorial world counts?
Posted by JuggaloMaggotLP on 02 Mar 23 at 21:58
miguelenojadoI only have about 4 hours total in minecraft and this popped randomly for me. Here's what I did

started on the tutorial world on the newest update.
moved the update to a usb drive to get the original tutorial world back. (don't delete the update unless you want to wait 12 hours for it to download again) Made a save.
Moved the newest update back on the hard drive and loaded up the original tutorial world and worked on some of the achievements.
I went to sleep on one of the beds during this time so that may have effected glitching this achievement to popping.

Ok it is well known that this achievement is fairly buggy. This solution is for those who have had problems unlocking the achievement through normal means. I fought with this issue for months and posted my solution in the comments of another TA member's solution. I received a message asking me to post it as a solution by someone it helped, because they almost missed it. I will paste it here in the hopes that someone else who is struggling might more easily find it.

    __________________________________________________________________________________________

Again These are the steps to follow only if you are experiencing a bug that prevents
the achievement from unlocking through normal means.
    __________________________________________________________________________________________

    - Delete Everything (Game, Update, Saves, Save Info, Profile) - Or simply move them all to an external that can be removed.
    - Clear Cache on any internal Drives ( Multiple times to be safe)
    - Reinstall Base Game (Delete update if it came along with download)
    - Make sure any external usb devices that contain anything to do with the game are not plugged in.
    - Clear Caches again
    - Re-Download Profile
    - Make a NEW save in Unpatched Version.
    - Play normally for a while and see if you get a popup saying you unlocked an avatar award like the T shirt ( As this indicates you are on the right track)
    - Save and Exit Game
    - Re-install Update
    - Load your New world you created and either play normally for 40+ hours or idle.

This does not have to be in one sitting, but must be same world. After idling while asleep I came back to find my internet had died and I was completely kicked from the game. I loaded the game back up where I left off hoping for the best. After Idling for the remainder of the 40 or so hours (probably only need 33ish as stated by others) I turned my tv back on and saw that I had a popup stating I had unlocked the watch avatar (Yet again) but this time I checked and the achievement had finally popped. On a side note.. I had my game running with the online game box checked this time. I don't know if that had any effect or not. I know on previous attempts I had tried while connected to xbl but I might not have actually had the game running as online and joinable, so better safe than sorry assuming this was the missing link. If you have seen any of my previous posts you can see that I tried many many variations of this method over 3 months time. Hopefully if you follow these steps exactly it works for you. Best of luck to anyone still struggling.

sobadnomadThumbs down because the steps are impossible to follow. I assume you are meant to re download profile other wise how to you re download the game? Only after this do you redownload profile.

Removed thumbs down. It's obvious, but because it wasn't explained it was confusing. Silly me, right? Except this takes 33.3 hours and that's not something I want to repeat.

    Simple enough process.

Glowblue1Thumbs up, this solution did work as of March 2023. Here’s what I did:

    - Checked avatar awards for Minecraft 360. Had all of them, including the two watches (there are two because one is for male avatars and one is for female ones)
    - My 360 is the S model that just came with the built-in 4 GB memory unit. I later upgraded it with a 120 GB hard drive. Most of my Minecraft data were on the hard drive.
    - I deleted the data for the two watches, started a new game and idled with a wired controller for 33+ hours on a new survival/peaceful world. I spawned right next to a woodland mansion, ha. No achievement.
    - I deleted the game and title update from the hard drive and moved all of the other save data to cloud storage. I also moved a couple saves that I had on the memory unit to cloud storage too. Cleared cache on both a few times.
    - Re-downloaded Minecraft to hard drive. Disconnected from internet.
    - The title update was included in the download. Deleted it.
    - Opened the game. Started a new game. It crashed as soon as the world popped up.
    - Started a new game again: survival, easy.
    - I found a pig, killed it, built some tools and a furnace and cooked the meat. It said I got a t-shirt avatar award.
    - Saved and quit. Re-connected to Xbox Live and started the game again. Let the title update download.
    - Opened the game I’d saved in the unpatched version. Built a small house. While I was mining for stone and coal, the game said I’d earned a Gamerpic of Steve. Not sure what I did to get it. Figured that was good.
    - Killed some chickens for feathers and spiders for string, and made a bow and arrows. Shot a Creeper with them. It said I’d unlocked a Creeper cap avatar award.
    - Went back in the house and left the game on. I used a wired controller just in case.
    - I’m away from home for the weekend, but checking my Xbox app I see that I got the achievement, nice.

Anyway, that’s what worked for me. Good luck to any still looking for this one. My unlock date for the avatar watch was in 2012 so I should have got this over 10 years ago!

For this particular achievement you will be spending about 34 hours to get this. Each Minecraft day is a solid 20 minutes.

You will get this normally if you play the game and don't sleep in a bed at night to skip to morning.

If you average 8 hours a day of mine craft you will have this achievement in 4 days of idling.

However, if you are just loading this up to sit in a corner you will want to play on peaceful while in an online game. Otherwise if you don't play online (and you have a wireless controller) your controller will turn off and the game will pause and once that happens the games paused and no more time shall elapse.

If you have friends who are jerks I suggest playing in an invite only game to keep any random deaths or problems from happening.

You will also want to have your settings set to an auto save preferably to the nearest 30 minutes to save your progress as well so none of your days are lost. If you lose Internet while in an online game it will be paused to switch to an offline lobby as well.

Only real problem with the pause screen is it overrides the ability to auto save until you back out of the screen. Having a wired controller just dims the screen forever until you touch it again. If you must (much like Mr Granstaff) keep the game running at all costs use a turbo for the A button or a rubber band to spin in circles with the joysticks.

I also recommend saving the game before you exit as well. On a side note this seems to be able to be done across multiple world's/seeds.

For anyone with an old world that you have played for months building that perfect castle, your dream home, or putting giant genitals and placing TnT in your friends world's you should get this as soon as your world loads up.

Mr GranstaffOh, my game continued to sit idled when I lost network connectivity as well. Probably by my controller constantly pressing 'A' it went ahead and unpaused the game when the menu popped up.

I also set my autosave for 15 minute intervals, because I'm cautious like that.

lightsup55So I have found out from a friend (Delta4907) who experienced this issue and found out that this bug is related to the avatar award item "A Minecraft Watch".

Check your Awards (on the Xbox 360 guide under Achievements). If you have "A Minecraft Watch" unlocked and don't have the "Passing the Time" achievement, you'll need to delete the avatar award from your Xbox 360 console's storage device. Be sure to also clear the cache. After that, re-launch the game, create a new world (survival on peaceful), then keep your console on for about 33 hours.

You might need to try this while offline (no timestamp for the achievement), though you will need to make sure you have the latest title update downloaded.
