As TheGearGuardian mentioned, this is a storyline achievement and cannot be missed.

The page which TheGearGuardian linked to is part of an excellent write-up. However, that particular page begins a bit after some of the needful procedures have been done. So I'll try backing up a little, since that may be helpful.

First, one must gain the "That's the Ticket" achievement by presenting an eye, or something which passes for an eye, to the guards. I have written a guide to help with this challenge, here on TrueAchievements.

Solution for That's the Ticket in King's Quest (Xbox 360)

You will need to use both the pie and the lantern to free Triumph. Each of those items costs "one shiny gold coin" to obtain. Unfortunately Graham only has one coin after he reaches the tournament. So he must find another before he can buy anything else.

Where that next coin can be found depends on which choice was made for a solution to the tournament challenge to find "the eye of a hideous beast."

Interact with the tournament board to get Whisper's portrait. You'll need it to console him, after you win the race. After you have cheered him up, he's willing to do you a favor. This will be useful... later.


If one used the dragon's eye as their ticket, the next coin is found by going north (up) past the king's statue. Travel east (right) past the steak trap, then take the first path to the north. Turn east (right) and interact with the pink cord. (Shooting it across the chasm works only after receiving archery tips from Achaka, in the dragon's den.) Go into the chasm, and the small valley. Shoot anything with a spear as a priority, and anything else that moves secondarily. Decide whether or not to save the merchant, and then collect a coin and a leaf for the Hobblepots (Chester and Muriel Hobblepot own the potion shoppe in town).

If one used the lantern as their ticket, the next coin is found by going north (up) past the king's statue. Travel east (right) past the steak trap, then take the first path to the north. Turn west (left) and enter the cave. As soon as you see an icon for interaction, open your inventory and select the lantern. Pass through the cave. After you emerge from the cave, go past two holes in the ground. The third hole should have the gold coin.

If one used the pie to obtain their ticket, the next coin is found by going south (down) past the tournament board, and then east (right) to Olfie. Use the horn's mouthpiece, if he isn't already providing passage across the river chasm. As soon as you have crossed, turn right. In the next area, you should see a stump with a coin on it.


My linked write-up gives detailed instructions about how to obtain the necessary ingredients for both pie and lantern, along with mention of a few secret achievements connected to those activities.


If you have not already done so, use the pie to make friends with Olfie (a bridge troll).

He will give you a mouthpiece to his horn. After that, you can cross that river chasm anytime you wish (if Olfie is not there, use his mouthpiece on the horn to summon him). When you have successfully walked across his back, if you go straight forward (north or up) you will enter a forest so dark that you need the lantern. Use the lantern as soon as you see an interaction prompt. Watch for a pale rectangle on a rock to the north of the path. An interaction prompt will appear by it. Take the work order.

While you're in the neighborhood, you might want to finish traveling through the woods, and turn south (down) at the end of the path. Walk east (right) across the top of the wall, and the top of the gate, by where the bridge troll guild members are having a meeting. Take the steps down the other side, and then travel west (left) along the riverside until you reach a hole at the foot of a cliff. Use the ladder in it to make a short-cut for yourself to return to the upper level. Continue traveling west (left), collect the gold coin by the stump (if you have not already done so), and then continue further until you reach either Olfie's bridge or else the horn which summons him. Use the mouthpiece, if needed, to summon him.

Cross Olfie's back again, to return to more familiar territories.

Proceed west (left) until the northward path appears which passes by the tournament board and the king's statue. Continue north (up), then east (right) past the pit trap, and then north again. Turn west (left) and enter the cave. If you have not already done so, use the lantern as soon as the interaction prompt appears.

After exiting the cave, follow the winding path to Triumph. (Pick up the coin by the third hole, if you have not already done so). Put the work order onto the tree from which your trapped mount is suspended, and then begin to travel back toward the cave. Amaya Blackstone will rush past you, pushing "Missus Crumbler." She will take down the tree, and then return to town. Return to Triumph, and interact with him.

This will trigger cut scenes leading to a race. During the race, either dodge or else veer around barriers, according to the needs of the moment or the on-screen prompts.

Eventually, you will have options to make bets that Whisper "can't do it" if he includes an extra challenge. Of course, he's convinced that "Whisper can do it!" and he will try to do it with the added challenge you suggested to him ... even if it's distinctly unwise.

When branches hang overhead, challenge Whisper to stand on his hands.

When there are obstacles in the path, challenge Whisper to do it backwards.

When passing the audience stands, where Manny and guards are sitting, challenge Whisper to talk to the guards.

It may take an extra lap or two, but eventually you'll win.
