Fan factor has a chance of increasing if you win a match, and a chance of decreasing if you lose. When you win, 3 dice are rolled, and if the total is more than your fan factor, it goes up by 1. So with a fan factor of 9 the probability of it going up to 10 after a win is 62.5%, which is likely to happen in your first couple of matches.
