If you'd like to get this early into the game, you can use Island 1, Bridge 7. Simply build a wooden bridge straight across and take a steel cable underneath it. Have the steel cable nodes be directly one block below the wood nodes. Below is a screenshot showing my set-up. It is hard to see, but there is also wood vertically connecting the bridge and steel cable (the reason for the nodes lining up).
