First off, use only the machine gun. There is never any good reason to change weapon in the underground areas unless you are pursuing a separate achievement.

The key to success here is to master the roll move. When rolling, a player is impervios to damage. The moment the roll animation is completed they are susceptable to damage again though. It is possible to string multiple rolls together making the player almost invincible. You cannot fire while rolling so you must stop to kill enemies. Have one player constantly firing behind and only change his attention when the camera locks for a defence sequence.

The underground sequences are split between advance and defence sequences. When the camera follows you character like the vehicle sections, this is when you are advancing. Be ready for enemies ahead as well as the occasional patch attacking from behind. When you reach a defence sequence, the camera locks at the centre of the arena and enemies will attack from all sides. A new strategy must be employed in these large open areas.

As well as utilising the roll, the player must also learn to loose focus on the screen. It might sound strange at first but there is method in the madness. Rather than moving your eyes across the screen and aiming you gun accordingly, by "zoning out" you can see where all enemies are arriving at the edge of the TV. Adjust your fire to kill them before they become a significant threat. Do not watch where your bullets are going, instead watch only your character and trust that you are inflicting damage. It might sound crazy but the most important thing is to stay alive by rolling whenever multiple shots are coming you way. With two players fire constantly, there is almost always enough shots travelling across the screen to stop enemies from building up and overwhelming you.

I hope this guide helped and if you have any suggestions where I can improve it then let me know through comments.
