This achievement is now unlockable but the actual amount of days is glitchy. It unlocked for me on day 47, not 42 as expected. The tracking seems to go up one percent every 4 days, but the achievement will still unlock closer to 40 than 400 days. It's unconfirmed whether this needs to be done on a fresh savefile after the update that "fixed" the achievement

To avoid eating plants means that you can only eat worms, spoiled fish (not recommended), fresh meat (also not recommended), cooked meat or jerky. If teas are allowed is unconfirmed (due to the wonky tracking) but I'd imagine it is since it's needed to cure diseases and is not strictly "eating plants".

It's unconfirmed whether the 40 days need to be in a row, or rather just 40 days in total across the playthrough. They do all need to be on the same playthrough though.

Use the environment to your advantage. Don't waste traps or arrows if snakes or bears can kill the prey for you. Constructing a camp fire for cooking is relatively cheap if you need it up until you can buy the stove upgrade on your raft.

Since jerky doesn't spoil, make as much of it as you can carry. And remember that rain is a free source of clean water, so stock up on lots of bottles and just refill them when it rains.

Staying off plants is pretty tricky until you learn the ropes, so feel free to leave it until either late in the playthrough or until you're comfortable with the game mechanics.

I purchased the game after the update which somewhat "fixed" this achievement.

Without ever deleting my save game, I went through campaign and a 200 day endless mode run and unlocked all achievements except Paleo Diet and Vegetarian.

During my 200 day endless mode run, I tried to unlock Paleo Diet at the same time. I definitely had more than 40 days without eating plants (from day 40 well past day 100) but the progress meter stopped at 11% and the achievement never unlocked. Thus, I believe that if you are going for this achievement and progress stops at 11% for multiple additional days, you should just restart your attempt.

After completing the 200 day run, I started a new endless mode run (without deleting my save file) focused solely on Paleo Diet and got the achievement to unlock. Here is my guide and some notes regarding its completion.

First, it is critical to understand that the game carries over all items placed in Aesop's bag to the start of a new game. (This is actually a setting activated by default in options menu.) Accordingly, if you are going for Paleo Diet, you can do one or more short games just to load Aesop's bag with jerky and cooked meat and then intentionally die before beginning your serious attempt at Paleo Diet. (This technique can also be used to load Aesop's bag with cooked yucca, etc. when going for Vegetarian.)

Upon starting your serious attempt at Paleo Diet, just as described, the critical requirement is that you do not eat any plants. As long as you have enough food and water and you are not too cold or fatigued, you can get time to run faster by sitting extra minutes in calm water after departing a location before entering the river. This will reduce the distance you travel over the same period of days, which will delay your entrance to colder regions. You will need to kill animals for pelts (as well as meat) in order to upgrade your clothing along the way to handle the cold. If you do this after completing the 200 day run, 40 days is easy.

You will see steady (but disproportionately slow) progress on the achievement. As far as I can tell, a programmer inadvertently divided the reported progress by 10. Accordingly, when the progress indicates 1% it really means 10%, etc. This is why you should assume the achievement has glitched if you get to 11% and it hasn't unlocked; you should never actually see 11% progress. Once you tick past 10%, the achievement should unlock as it did for me.

However, don't expect this to happen at exactly day 40 or 41. For me, it popped just as I hit day 42, but others report even higher numbers. As long as your achievement progress is below 11%, just keep going until either the achievement pops or it locks at 11%.

If it does lock at 11%, you should be able to start another run and have it start over at 0% as it did for me though; it won't permanently glitch. You should be able to do this without deleting your save file.

Hope this helps.
