Very misleading achievement description. Even after seeing the "1000 Medals!" message flash up on the left hand side, the achievement doesn't unlock.

This is because the medals it is referring to are NOT the little golden things that shower down the screen when you kill airborne enemies.

You need to collect 1000 of the "medals" that are left behind by larger ground-based enemies in the crater they leave when they blow up. These look like two stars with a swirling animation around them.

This doesn't have to be done in one playthrough, it adds up over time. However, you do need to reach the end of the section for them to be added to your achievement tracker.
