To obtain this ending, you must not turn back when you first enter Nowhere at the beginning of the game. After moving forward through the area, you must fight and beat Nameless, then fight the final form of the Final Boss right afterwards.

While I am sure some crazy player might technically be able to do this on their first playthrough at Level 1 - for the rest of us, that means waiting until New Game+ to attempt this, since both Nameless in his final form and the final boss are no pushovers.

So basically:

Beat the game, continue onto New Game+, fight Nameless during your first trip to Nowhere, then the final boss immediately afterwards.

Important note:
Whatever healing items/buffs you had when you finished the final boss on your first playthrough, will be all you have available to you for both the Nameless and final boss fight again - beyond a few Life Fragments you can collect in the prologue. Velez's shop also won't be available to replenish anything.

As an added note - during the Nameless fight, he also has an attack that will drain 100% of your life (but not kill you) - so attempting that battle without using any healing items is almost unavoidable.

As I didn't realise this, I used up a lot of my items on the final boss of my first playthrough, leaving me with nothing but a handful Life Fragments (there are about 5-6 in the prologue) to beat the two big fights (Nameless/Final Boss) for the Joke ending.

Hence - I have a different recommended route that should make it easier to have more items available to you

- Beat the game, play through New Game+ until you complete the Bad/Worst ending fight (requires 4 messengers defeated). Then start another New Game+ (New Game++?), fight Nameless during your first trip to Nowhere, then the Final Boss immediately afterwards.

Why is this easier?
As you're expected to complete New Game+ anyway for another achievement, and the Bad/Worst ending is the quickest method that counts, you might as well take advantage of this route's lower difficulty.

The Bad/Worst ending boss is arguably much easier than the Final Boss - meaning you're more likely to have a full set of higher level items available to you (War Anima, Defense Anima, etc). In fact, I only used about 4 Life Fragments in the Bad/Worst ending fight, which I could easily replenish during the prologue.
