How to unlock the Home, Sweet Home achievement

To unlock you must visit the Sol system but you need a permit. To obtain this permit you much reach the rank of Petty Officer in the Federal Navy. To obtain this rank you must do missions for federation aligned minor factions at stations in federation controlled space. The more successful missions you do at multiple system stations, the faster your rank will increase. You can tell if the missions are Federation aligned in the missions tab at stations because they will have the Federation symbol with the party giving the mission. You will be able to check your progress with the Federation in the systems tab in your ship. To progress to the next rank you will be given missions that usually say something like "Do -X- for the Federal Navy. Get to the rank of Petty Officer (about 4 levels of rank) and you will get the permit. Then fly to Sol.
Note: sometimes after obtaining the rank of Petty Officer it will not show that you got the permit. If that happens, log out then log back in and it should find it in your systems tab

Lurking LawyerMight be worth noting that, unlike some of the other Title Update achievements, this one doesn't seem to be retrospective.

I had visited Sol before the achievement was introduced but it didn't pop automatically like some others did. It did, however, pop immediately on re-visiting Sol.

MethodGTWill turning in exploration data and/or bounties at a system controlled by the Federation increase your rank?

Da3RingCircusYes. Well it increases your reputation, which in turn will eventually lead to promotion missions.

o DEEVIUS o@MethodGT - No. Exploration data and bounties only increase Reputation which has nothing to do with military rank, you could sell billions and never increase 1%. Having a high reputation does however allow more missions to be available.

Also even though you can complete Passenger missions from the Federation it does not increase rank neither.

o DEEVIUS oThe easiest way to do this is to go to Ceos and accept Boom Data delivery and Courier missions to Sothis. Deliver them to Sothis and accept the same missions back to Ceos, you can loop these very easy missions until you get a Navy mission that promotes you.
