Barnacles are the first evidence of possible in-game alien life and first appeared in the Merope system but have also been found more recently in other systems around the Pleiades and California nebulae.

Probably the best bet to find one is on Merope 5c at coordinates -026.3496, -156.4044.

It's not always obvious how to navigate to given coordinates. Bear in mind that the first changes as you head north (0) or south (180) and the second as you head east (90) and west (270).

You can of course change both at once by steering a course between those main compass points but I found I easier to get one co-ordinate locked in before working on the second.

Be mindful that, at least on Merope 5c, the barnacle is guarded by three sentry skimmers. Use the SRV turret to take them out before trying to scan the barnacle.

To scan, and pop the achievement, select the barnacle as your target with Y then hold down LB to scan.

Sell your data (via the Contacts menu at any station) and you'll be well on the way to popping the achievement for getting 100,000 credits of SRV scan data. For me, selling the barnacle data at Obsidian Orbital in Maia yielded around 83,000 credits but others have reported that just the one scan will generate in excess of 100,000.
