As you increase the levels of difficulty in the game, your opponents become more intense. They start to build cities faster, research faster, and obtain gold faster. Sometimes, faster than you can.

If you've won a tech victory before, then you now how to do so. Check out the "Ideas Control the World Ideas Control the World" achievement guide to learn How to win a tech victory the fastest. Here are some quick pointers to win a tech victory on King mode (or higher).

Play as Alexander (Greeks). He begins the game with Democracy - Includes 50% more Science/Gold & Pikeman. He eventually unlocks the feature of "More Great People".

Also, play a non-scenario game. I usually find that the enemies are less complex on a non-scenario game.

Choose Democracy as a government when you can. Don't change it. +50% Science/Gold helps a lot. Alexander gets democracy almost immediately. Research it when you can if you're not Alexander.

Don't build troops to attack enemy towns -unless you need to. You want enough troops to fortify your defenses. Democracy will Always make you choose peace over war.

Be the first to find the "Lost City of Atlantis". It's always in deep water, so research Navigation when you can. Finding this gets you Three random technologies right away.

Don't Research Electricity.
Research Electronics.

Once you've unlocked "Space Flight". I find it helps to switch All (or most) of your cities to produce gold instead of Science. This way you can Rush the building, to obtain a victory quicker.

These are the Wonders that make it a little easier:

The "Oxford University" wonder when you can. It automatically gives you One advanced technology. The 3 that I usually get are "Atomic Theory", "Superconductor" and "Flight".

Leonardo's Workshop: Upgrades ALL your current units (i.e. If you have Tanks unlocked, All your warriors, legion units, Horseman, and Knights become tanks). This is good for defense.

If you are trailing behind, build the "Great Library" wonder. This gives you technologies that other civilizations have discovered already. This wonder becomes obsolete when another civilization discovers "University".

Hope these tips help.
