How to unlock the Elephants Never Forget achievement

EDIT *From iVilux in the comments - "You need to die or complete the mission in order to unlock the achievement. If you have the challenge but no achievement, just quickly get into a game and die."

So I spent all day trying to work this one out and I believe I have the solution.

The first thing that you want to do is gain access to Morgan's Suite on the top floor. There are a few ways to do this but the method I chose was to do the "On The House" Opportunity. By following this opportunity through to completion, it will not only take you directly to the room you need to be in, but will also clear the bottom floor of all staff allowing you to freely move around (It will also give you the perfect opportunity to push Morgan off the balcony and complete the "I Believe I Can Fly" challenge which is part of the Drop the Bass achievement).

**Posted by Calex dEUS in the comments - "Probably obvious but you can get the 'hold my hair' challenge here too when he inspects the toilet."

Now once you are in the suite, you want to look around the room for small, golden elephant statues. I counted 15 on the bottom floor and 3 on the top floor for a total of 18, but I could have miscounted. Feel free to correct me if you count differently. I don't know exactly where all of the locations are but all of them were on bookshelves for me, both up high and on lower shelves. The three upstairs are all in the same room, the one with the heart made of flowers on the bed. This is where all of the staff seem to go when they leave the downstairs area and for me, one of them could see through my disguise so I ended up shooting them all.

There are also a few silver elephants. I don't think these are required but I shot any of them I saw anyway. You should hear an elephant sound after each one you shoot. The problem is that you won't hear a distinctive sound after you have shot them all so you will have to keep count and check each room thoroughly.

When you think you have shot them all, head downstairs to the main lobby. When you get to the bottom of the stairs, you should unlock the "I Will Cry If I Want To" challenge and the achievement should unlock. If you don't unlock the "I Will Cry If I Want To" challenge, then you haven't shot all of the elephants. For me, the achievement didn't unlock until I quit to the main menu so try that if it doesn't pop straight away.

This is an Easter egg by the way so if you want to see what exactly it does. Go outside the main entrance to where the two large elephant statues are and look at their faces. You will also hear unique dialogue from the NPCs but I won't ruin it for you.

Mr GamecoxMAKE SURE you complete the mission normally BEFORE attempting this achievement!

I think my issue initially was that I was trying to unlock this achievement before completing the mission regularly. I also think this is why some players have no problems at all unlocking it. If you try to unlock this achievement before you have previously completed this mission, when you unlock the achievement for completing the mission (Shining Bright), it causes the Elephants Never Forget trophy to bug out and stay locked even though the challenge has been completed. Once that challenge is check-marked in-game it is autosaved and stored in the cloud on the hitman server, but the achievement remains locked within Xbox LIVE.

If this happens to you, reset your account from the hitman website (https://personal.hitman.io/) and re-attempt. I had no issues popping the trophy the second time around once I fully completed the mission and let all my challenges unlock at the score screen. (Let the game sit at the score screen until your achievement pops). I tried everything in the book before resetting my account and nothing worked. IF your Xbox account bugs out on this achievement, resetting your hitman account appears to be the ONLY way to unlock it. Just keep in mind if you do this, you will lose all your in-game progression, weapons, etc. across ALL hitman games so you may want to save this for your final achievement for 100% completion. I was impatient and did it before I finished all the other achievements for this game, making my quest to 100% Colorado and Hokkaido a little more difficult. GOOD LUCK

I've complete challenge during first mission (after kill Morgan from suite) and didn't unlock initially. Reloaded save, shot last 3 elephants and then died in a first fight & achievement unlocked.

This is done in Episode 4: Thailand, Club 27 mission. You will need to find and destroy the 18 gold elephant statues in the penthouse area. There are also silver elephant statues, which do not count toward the achievement / trophy. Each destroyed gold statue will make a confirmation noise. You must return to the atrium/start of the mission in order to unlock the challenge and achievement / trophy.

Shoot all the gold elephants on shelves around Morgan's penthouse suite (the big one being cleaned), they'll make an elephant sound when you destroy them. There's quite a lot of the small statues and it was tough getting them all without being spotted - there are also a few upstairs in the penthouse, in the room behind the very small garden type shrine room. Once you think you've shot them all, go outside and the large elephants at the front of the hotel should trumpet and the challenge will complete ("I Will Cry if I Want To") with the achievement unlocked shortly after (don't think you need to complete the mission for it, I just reloaded a couple of saves trying to finish and it popped anyway). For going outside I'd recommend going down the stairs that lead to the penthouse (opposite 47's room), sharp right on that landing and out the double doors on to the atrium roof.

NighthawkJoVDeleted my hitman info from the above link (thank you so much for whomever figured that fix out) and re-did the Bangkok level. Shot the elephants, verified the challenge unlocked and the elephants were crying. Then I started a fight with guards and died. Achievement didn't pop even after several minutes at the option screen. Then I reloaded a save to re-read try and it unlocked. Thank you for helping me finish off the game. 100%!
