This was tough in places.

I chose to do this in a new campaign playthrough. You could always blitz through a new campaign with a custom preset giving 300% money to get tons of upgrades and try this in NG+, but I thought that would be a lot harder.

You obviously can never fire your weapons. I'd imagine that if you accidentally do, just dashboard, force quit, and relaunch game to pick up at the start of the current level.

I used Blue Falcon primarily for his alternate melee ability, which is a ranged attack. This is extremely helpful when hanging back against bosses and avoiding bullet hell. His distortion technique is great for a damage burst, as well.

Since you can die without penalty, you may just need to persevere to get past difficult parts. For me, the main hangup was the Hive Queen boss in the Alien Hive level. Brutal.

For junk merchant offerings, focus on all the things that improve your melee damage. The one that decreases your rate of fire but increases (if I recall correctly ) shield recharge gives a bonus with no penalty as you wont be firing your weapon. It's up to you whether you want to go for general damage/shield/distortion upgrades (and any epic upgrades). I believe I bought the movement speed upgrade, as well. The upgrade that recharges shields when you use distortion is good, too.

Also, I found that many enemies (and some bosses) have a save zone where you can hang out and melee away. Some won't damage you if you position yourself above/below them where you can hit with your melee attack. Keep this in mind because your positioning isn't dependent on being directly in front of enemies to shoot them.

Good luck.
