UPDATE: I'm hearing that you might have to talk to Alexander in front of the Graham statue before the ice palace for it to count for the achievement. So talk to him as much as it will allow you to at that part as well.

When you get to the ice palace and start solving the puzzles, talk to Alexander in every room that allows you to, until it doesn't give you the option anymore for that room. Keep doing this until the achievement pops up. It popped up for me when I got done talking to him in the puzzle room with the two cubes.

Note: you have to talk to Alexander before he melts the ice AND after he melts the ice with his magic.
