Horde mode is unlocked after completing the game on any difficulty, and can be accessed from the "More GameModes" section of the main menu. It's the same as any other combat sequence in the game, except... it doesn't end. It starts out very slow, but gradually speeds up little by little until it's so fast that the game becomes nearly unplayable. That said, this only took me 5 tries, so if you're good at QTEs, you may or may not struggle overtly to reach 850 kills.

Since you should be well familiar with the combat by the time you beat the game, there's not much to add that you won't already be aware of. Every enemy type appears here, and your success will largely depend on how much the game feels like spamming the triple button input guys late into the run. If you get a ton of them... well you're not gonna have a good time. Good news is that even in this mode, you can revive your partner as many times as you want, as long as both guys don't die. However, this becomes near impossible when the speed gets crazy fast, as you will simply be flooded with enemies too quickly to pick up your friend. But you may get lucky, so don't give up! In my successful run, I actually revived one of my dudes at around 800, so it's certainly possible if the enemies play nice for a few seconds.

The number one most important trick you HAVE to know is how to buffer inputs. What I mean by this is that, for example, if you have a triple input guy coming, and his combo is cn_Acn_Bcn_X, you can hit cn_A and cn_B right away, and then hit cn_X when the enemy gets into striking range. This works for all enemy types apart from peas (since they only have one input) and kunoichis (the ones with a quartercircle + button input). For the latter, you can instead hold the diagonal input, then hit the button when they get close. Oh yeah, diagonal down inputs on the stick count as quartercircles, because this game was lazily programmed. For the button + quartercircle + button enemies, just hold diagonally down and input both buttons. Buffering the first two works fine for them as well. This may all sound a bit complicated, but it makes perfect sense ingame.

It's important that you do not miss too many enemies early on, as this will leave you at a deficit when things speed up, and you'll have to last just that much longer to reach 850. I'd say you should definitely not get hit until you reach 250 kills, shortly after which you start to run into your first unfair triple input situations.

This is a very hard achievement, but practice makes perfect! If you have any questions or added suggestions, feel free to leave a comment. Who am I kidding, no one will play this lol
