EDIT: This is part of the Dawnguard quest line, the actual mission where you can start learning Soul Tear is "Beyond Death"

    *** Spoiler - click to reveal ***

Each time you summon Durneviir you will get give one word to the "Soul Tear" shout. So you will need to summon him 3 times. The shout takes 300 seconds to recharge, so 5 minutes; just wait an hour and summon him again ( Due to a message I need to specify waiting using the in-game "Wait" feature) . Try summon him in a wide open area so it doesn't glitch, sometimes I found him to spawn and insta-die.

You do need the third level of "Summon Durneviir" so you will need to spend at least 3 souls on unlocking all 3 levels. NOTE: You don't need to unlock any of the shouts for Soul Tear using Dragon souls. Simply having learned them is enough.

EDIT 2: Make sure you aim the shout at the ground to summon him. You will need some clear space within which to summon Durneviir. The planes outside Whiterun are ideal, although I did it out the front of Castle Volikhar

FFX BrotherhoodBeen a very long time, but I assume no. I recall you needing to use a Dragon soul to be able to unlock the word for use once you found it in the world. Assume no, but someone else may know more.

You could still find all the words and progress the main story to spawn dragons, then just use the souls as soon as you get them

RamdeltOne item to add here. I did this a few times and the achievement would not pop after learning the 3rd word. I found that even though the game was showing me learning the second word, Dunheviir would vanish the moment he appeared. To fix this, I went back to a save prior to learning any of the words and fast travelled to the plains outside of Whiterun. Call Dunheviir once to learn the first word, then save, skip 24 hours ahead and move a short distance to another area of the plains. Make sure that you don't see any dragons in the air or ground before calling him again. If he vanishes right away, go back to your save. If he gives the second word and flies off, save, forward 24 hours, move to another area of the plains outside Whiterun, and do it again. Once he was done with the third word and flew off, the achievement popped. Good luck! If this happened to you, hopefully you still have a save after you met Dunheviir but before you learned the words without getting the achievement.

I was having trouble with getting the shout to work, in order to summon Durneviir you need to direct the shout at the ground out in front of you.
