  One of the best places to do this is in Venice. You unlock this place / district during sequence 8. For the easiest way you need also two or three smoke bombs. Gather a lot of enemies at this place then throw a smoke bomb and equip your hidden blade and start killing the enemies inside the smoke bomb. After the first smoke bomb is nearly gone, throw another smoke bomb and repeat until achievement unlocks.

  I am currently in Venice. I can never remember all the names of the buildings, and it is hard to find a map with all of the building names on it. However, I found a map that shows this large building contains the Assassin's Tomb "San Marco's Secret". It is a very large building with an enclosed courtyard, and the whole place is in red, marked as a "restricted area". I am at the south end of the building, near large, locked doors. I waited for two roving patrols of guards to come near each other, then I punched a guard to begin a fight sequence. I popped a smoke bomb and began using my hidden blades to kill a few. Once they recovered from the smoke bomb, I popped another smoke bomb and kept killing with my hidden blades. I had only killed seven of them, when the rest began running away. However, I happened to noticed several yellow/red attention arrows on the other side of the locked door, with guards yelling to "get him", but they were stuck on the other side of the door. On a whim, I started to target my pistol through the door, and killed a couple (it took all six of my bullets to get two kills), then I got right against the door and started swinging my sword, which killed another guard and the achievement popped. I probably just got lucky that I was able to kill the last few through by basically "glitch fighting" through a large locked door. It may be worth trying to start your fight at that spot, because there are plenty of guards in that area anyway, so it is a good spot to shoot for the achievement, in any event. If they begin running away before you can kill ten of them, then you "may" get lucky and be able to kill the remaining few through the door. :)
  
  EDITED TO ADD - This building/spot is just above the fast travel point at Venice - San Marco. I have recently finished DNA sequence 8, so the area is available around this time.

  and i thought i sucked because aggroing enough guys became too much to handle. now i realize i was merely a fool for not thinking of using smoke bombs.

  Super easy to earn at the Abbey where you first get the smoke bomb just assassinate the monk you need to kill and after word just run around till you have 10 monks to kill then are at least 13-14 in the quart yard and a few more outside the quart yard.

  I found a very easy spot to do this achievement. Around sequence 4, you'll head to Tuscany/San Gimignano. There are several "!" mission markers around. Head to the one in the southeast corner of the map. You'll be tasked with assassinating someone inside of the abbey.
  
  There are a ton of low level enemies in brown hoodies around. What I did was assassinated the target, then got a bunch of enemies on my tail by running around the two courtyards. There are at least 15-20 enemies around the building.
  
  They are all one hit counter kills too. Just hold RT and wait for one to attack and press X. Repeat 10 times without getting hit. If you didn't get the achievement and you only have one enemy left, let him chase you while you run around the courtyards attracting more guards.

  Plus one from me!!! Btw, the mission you are talking about is called, "The Cowl Does Not Make The Monk"
  
  This is also the BEST place/mission to get another achievement as well, I just popped Messer Sandman a few seconds ago!!!!
  
  (I just avoided locating and killing Stefano da Bagnone and just aggro'ed the monks, dropped a smoke bomb, threw sand and got 6 monks easy!!!!)

  I had much more luck with the smoke bomb & hidden blade method than with the counter attack method. Hardly seemed to work half of the time.
  
  If you need to reset the guards, you can select 'abort memory' and you'll be back in front of the quest-giver.
  
  By the way, this is in sequence #5.

  I think the best place to do this is actually sequence 14. Using the smoke bomb method, so fill up beforehand. As soon as you get control of Ezio on the horse, jump off, sprint to the middle, there should be 12 or so guards around you, and I'm fairly certain they don't run away either, so even if you don't use bombs, here is a good spot. Smoke bomb hidden blade repeat. Beauty of saving for here is, jump off the ledge if you fail, more guards, free smoke refill, don't have to run around gathering guards, checkpoint is right there too, AND, its a small area, so you can hit all guards with 1 bomb, and kill quick. Obviously, since there seems to be no sequence select, if you beat the game already, this won't work for you.
