The red circle in the picture below shows the location where you can buy the best fishing equipment. There is a shop here but too small to show up.

Edit: But DON'T fish here! Go to another easy fishing spot.

If you had ever played Rapala fishing games on XBOX360, the fishing in this game is totally a joke. The hardest part may be lure the fish, but still very simple. Cast the lure, and there will be a red indicator bar if the fish is attracted. When the red bar shows, start tapping cn_RT very lightly. You can't keep tapping or it won't work. There is a rhythm: tap, stop, stop, tap, tap, stop, tap, stop, stop, and so on. It's much more like teasing a woman if you know what I mean.

Once the fish is hooked, push cn_LS when the line is tensioned, press cn_RT when the line is not tensioned, and you get the fish.

There is no difference between catching big fish and small fish. It only counts how many fish you fished. So just go to Galdin Quay and fish the spot over and over. It takes about two hours from level 1 to level 10.

Obscured83Unlocked right now. Just noticed that each time you reach a new fishing level Ignis say "you're improved".

YaIrishMick96^Not true. He says that every now and again.

Not sure why this guide has downvotes. The achievement sucks ass because it's boring but the guide is perfectly fine.

YaIrishMick96Jesus it feels like I've been fishing for HOURS at Galadin Quay and I'm progressing so fucking slowly. I'm still only at level 7 or 8 and I've caught probably 200 fish. I went to the north most fishing spot to get a few of the rarer fish but I didn't feel it was worth it really because they're harder to catch.

*** Do not have any extra peripheral devices hooked up such as guitar hero controllers or USB hubs or any other USB device such as a skylander, lego dimensions or disney infinity portal. These are suspect to breaking the fishing mini game. If you immediately fail fishing these could be why.***

Fishing is very easy once you get the hang of it and it just becomes more simple as you level up the skill. The larger and more rare the fish the more exp you get for fishing.

The first place you can fish is in Galdin Quay. It is to the south of where you start. If you follow the main story line you will be taken to this location for a level 5 quest. Just go out to the beach and then find the docks. There is a merchant that will sell you everything you need in order to fish.

Fish will respawn in the pools given time. You can probably just go sleep and come back and they will have returned. When you see the reel icon in the center of your screen that means the line is getting tension and it will start causing the line HP to degrade. If the line breaks you lose the bait as well. Otherwise the bait is able to be reused. When looking at the minimap before you cast you can see little dots. Those are the fish. The closer you land your lure to the fish the better chance you get for getting their attention.

Once you have their attention use press the right trigger once to pull the lure toward you. Let it sit for 1-2 seconds and then pull it again. You are basically having to entice the fish to get the lure. When you first cast if your lure is close enough sometimes the fish will bite it instantly. So try to line up target perfectly before you cast.

Fish seem to like several different types of lure. I've managed to catch every first on the minimap at Galdin Quay with only 1 lure. Some fish prefer certain lures over others but it seems that they will eventually bite on more than just one type of lure.

mantledFeanorNLSo, i found that the left or right indicator lags behind a bit in respect to the actual fish movement. When you have a fish that you can actually see, look at the fish rather that at the indicators or bars. This seems very useless advise, maybe you already did this, but I was able to react faster to the fish turning by looking at the fish only. You'll see that the indicator might not even show up when the fish is going one side continuously. It helped for me, so I hope so it does for you.
Also, don't try and fish at the carnival. The fish you catch won't count towards the skill progress, as I wasted an hour or more fishing there.
It is still usefull to visit though, you can learn a recipe that makes your lasting longer. Buy some oranges as well in order to be able to have ignis make it.
Furthermore, you can get a 330 fishing reeling item at the arena in altissia. Just bet the highest amount possible (9999, buy less and try to increase until you have this much), save before starting and after every win, not hard to get enough medals at all.
    And yes it is boring.
