As you play through the game you will pick up key items associated with the 6 different summon magics in the game with the first one being
    *** Spoiler - click to reveal ***
Once you have gotten your first key item you have the ability to get this achievement. During battle encounters if you are getting beaten badly enough you will see the option to press LT to summon. You must be low hp and possibly have one or more of your party members dead.

You must hold LT for a few seconds and you will summon one of the six to aide you.

I have not noticed this happening in boss battles.

If you're having issues getting this achievement for some reason, each summon has a different criteria it cares about for appearing.

Titan: having multiple/all other party members completely out (not just in danger, but down)
Ramuh: Based on duration of fight, the longer the more likely he is to intervene.
Leviathan: Noctis's condition desperate (danger, low max HP, etc)
Shiva: Quite random, seems to benefit from any of the above.

Note that Titan and Leviathan are also geographically limited. Leviathan requires a nearby body of water (whether it be the sea or a lake), and Titan is exactly where you met him and wont appear at all/infrequently if you're too far away from him.

This means Ramuh charging from length of fight is your best way to reliably summon. My experience is that Ramuh will be summonable nearly any time your Time rank in a fight has dropped to C or D.

You will not always get the visible prompt to press LT to summon. However, various light particles will appear around you when summon is available.

Soylent GrayI didn't get this achievement after summoning Ramuh the first time in the storyline mission at the base. Does it only pop after you summon something *after* the first Ramuh?

Junts26None of the storyline summons seem to pop this achievement; there are others like the Ramuh summon. There are several others like that (at least 3) and they all likely do not provide the achievement.

I too got the achievement the first time I summoned when I didn't have to.

This is only if you want to do this right away if you are doing everything you come across. You can get this out of the way in Chapter 5 just after acquiring Ramuh. On your way to the final objective you want to make camp at Lingagh Haven (Near the road in Rydnelle Ley). After camping, make you way to the road and look for these 'little' fellas in the video.

They have a lot of hit points so its easy to just use the auto-attack to drag out the fight so the summon prompt appears - I was around lvl 45 due to side-quest OCD, so I was a tad bit overlevled at this point. You will need to HOLD DOWN the trigger for a few seconds before the summon actually starts. Once it happens you'll get the satisfaction of seeing prior to the scripted event.
