Solution
So here is my guide for completing all the challenges on SBK 08.

In order to unlock the achievement you will need to get a PLATINUM medal in each of the tutorials and challenges, although this may seem daunting at first it is do-able.

With every platinum medal you gain you will unlock 1 card towards the following achievement (you can collect a total of 20 cards, 0 for the tutorials and 1 for each challenge towards the 68 you need for the achievement).

General Info

Some of these challenges can be very frustrating at first and many took me multiple retries to get, but stick with it and you will nail them.

Remember if you go off track the challenge will fail, even if you have done enough to get a medal, the same thing applies if you don’t complete the lap(s) in under the specified time.

There are some extra tips that I found useful at the start of each category and next to / below the challenge. The initial info is what is required for platinum, this doesn’t appear on screen unless you already have the gold, you can get the platinum even if you have not tried a challenge.

Tutorial

These are fairly straight forward and just require a bit of experience with the game, knowing the tracks and how to control the bikes.

Lesson 1: beat the target speed by 15km/h (get to know the track and get the right lines to maintain a nice speed)

Lesson 2: 84% brake used (for this I barely braked at all, just let the speed fall off naturally by releasing the throttle well before the corner)

Lesson 3: 84% brake used (as lesson 2)

Lesson 4: 9 seconds left (a bit of a pain, don’t go too fast into the corners or you’ll drift off the line, you may want to use the back button to adjust the camera angle as it makes the line ahead easier to see)

Lesson 5: 9 seconds left (as lesson 4, but on a wet track so be a bit more careful in & out of corners)

Time

These are pretty straight forward and just require knowledge of the tracks and some riding techniques. The last 2 took me several attempts to get right.

Time 1: 9 seconds left

Time 2: 9 seconds left (no powered brake on this one, so brake earlier than you would do normally)

Time 3: 9 seconds left (again no powered brake, so brake early)

Time 4: 9 seconds left

Time 5: 9 seconds left (again no powered brake. You can run across the green “escapes” on the inside of corner of the 1st & 2nd chicanes. On the second lap I was braking for the 1st chicane well before the 1st distance marker board to make sure I slowed in time to be able to turn in ok)

Special

I found these pretty tricky as the techniques you need to use re not always obvious. They all took multiple attempts before I could get platinum, so just keep trying and you will get them eventually.

Skid: 9 seconds skidding
The only way to get the bike to skid controllably is to hold down the A button (rear brake) as you enter and all through the corner, at the same time pulse / tap the RT (throttle), this produces a manageable skid, but it is still possible to lose it if you try too hard.

You can hold A and steer left right down the straights to get more skid time, but don’t do too much of this as it slows you down and you still need to be able to finish the lap in the specified time.

I got it by milking it in the first series of bends to the hairpin, did a bit of weaving down the straight and then made up the rest in the 2nd set of corners after the straight. I was done well before the end of the yellow section.

You need to finish in time so you may need a bit of A button round the last few corners of the lap, so you don’t bail just before the end.

Wheelie: 18 seconds wheelie
Far easier than the skidding and the upcoming stoppie challenge. The best tips are to get the bike upright and lined up for the small straights quickly, “pop a wheelie” and hold it then use a tap of the A (rear brake) button to bring the front end down quickly so you can make the corner.

There is a nice stretch at the end where you can get some good time, so do your best during the lap as even if it’s a very small wheelie it all adds up.

Burnout: 5 donuts completed (get to the section and stop, hold LT (front brake) then accelerate holding left or right, do 5 circles then release LT, oddly it didn’t count 1 of my donuts, so just do another if needed)

Stoppie: 15 seconds stoppie
This was a pain until I got the technique down. The key tips are to make sure your bike is upright and straight before starting the stoppie with LT (front brake) and pushing forward.

Don’t push too hard forward or you’ll go over. Don’t start it an angle, or you will drift off track or fall and don’t just hold down LT, instead squeeze and release the LT, not as fast as the pulsing used on RT in the skid challenge, but you’ll see what I mean when you try it.

It is possible to get a nice controlled and balanced stoppie and even hold the stoppie with no forward momentum for a half a second or so. I was averaging between 2.5 and 5 seconds.

I liked to do a small (2.5 secs) as the track straightened after the first slight curve, then waited until the track straightened and did a big, then a small stoppie before the chicane. Another small one before the next 2 corners and this usually left me needing a small one to get past the 15 before the yellow section ends.

As long as you are crossing the line that ends the yellow section with around 50 seconds still on the clock you should complete the rest of the lap in time.

Acrobatics: 15 seconds left
So you have to put it all together now. Keep in mind there is no traction control so you may need a bit of A button in all of the corners to prevent falling off.

You start off with the skid, get as much as possible in the corner and make up any extra in the bit of straight before the section ends.

Next up is the wheelie, I liked to have a wheelie going as I entered the section, it is possible to get all 3.5 seconds before the 1st bend, but it is a little risky, the next short straight gives you the space to make up any you need.

The 3rd section is the stoppie, I liked to get a nice one going as soon as you enter the section, then clear the next couple of bends and get the remainder on the straight.

The final element is just 1 donut, get it done and then race to the end.

Scenario (1 & 2)

A variety of challenges, see the relevant scenario for tips. It’s often better just to select re-start from the menu if you think you are going to miss the platinum conditions, as it will take you back to the main menu whatever medal you get, and this gets tiresome very quickly.

As these are race conditions you can stray off track, unless it has RULES and not be penalised.

Head to Head: Race won with a 3” (win by 3 seconds so you have just got to know the track and how to ride, or get lucky and have the 2nd place rider fall, or be persuaded to fall off)

Comeback: Race won with a 3” (I got this on my first try, make sure you are in 1st by the end of the 1st lap, then even with an untidy final lap it’s still pretty easy. Restart if you fall off)

Bike Damaged: Race won (This was another one I got on my 1st try, I was in 2nd place after the 1st lap, then took the lead through the first corner set. Again restart if you fall off)

Running Away: Race won with a 10” (Another one I got first try, I was in the lead before the end of the 1st lap, then had a couple of clean laps to win (all the laps on this track trying for the Time challenge helped). Restart if you fall off)

Hang On: Race won by a 5” (again got this one on my first try, as above all the laps trying for the Time Challenge helped. Restart if you somehow fall off)

Simulation Mode: Race won with a 5”
Trickier than the previous scenarios, I had to make several restarts in order to get a nice start, and I would recommend doing the same. I moved to the far right from the start and got into the top 10 for the first corner then moved my way through the pack and was in 1st by the end of the 1st lap. I did fall off half-way round the lap, but caught up ok.

Try to build a nice lead by racing smoothly and gently, don’t over-cook it as you don’t have traction control to help you out and brake early as the powered brake is off.

By the end of the 4th lap I was about 14 seconds ahead, which was good as during the final lap I fell off twice, but was still able to win and get platinum.

Pouring Rain: Race won with a 3” (got this 1st try, be gentle on the controls as it is very slippery and you should nail them under braking. I was in 1st after the 2nd lap and then built up a nice lead. Restart if you fall off)

Rules: Race won with a 5” (Hold LT at the start so you don’t jump start as you build revs, get a good start, re-start if needed or if you crash, keep it clean, stay on the track, brake early as no powered brake and you should build a nice lead)

No Brakes: Race won (not too bad really and did it first try. There are no brakes at all as far as I could tell, so keep your speed in check, you can get away with cutting corners across the grass. I was in 1st place just after the chicane, then just take it steady to the end as the AI seem to be riding pretty slowly really)

SBK Champion: Race won with a 5” (As the final race this isn’t too bad. Real rules apply so hold LT at the start as you build revs. You can get away with cutting the track once (you get the black & white flag), do it twice and it’s a drive through. Restart if you crash. I was unfamiliar with the track so I raced it once thru just learning the track then got it on my second try)
