The game plays almost exactly like Bust a Move, it can get pretty frustrating in the later levels but understanding the games mechanics will make it a lot easier.
The best way to rack up points is to build your combo and hold your combo. To keep your combo you need to pop some bubbles on each shot. You won't pop any if you don't get a cluster of at least three of a kind that are touching each other, keep that in mind.
Little later on you will be introduced to TNT spheres and you can easily rack up shots with these because you can shoot a colored ball directly at the TNT if it has the same color touching it on the other side.
I didn't fire my powerups unless I had a full combo and always tried to hit a large group with it when I dd use them.
Even further in the game it will start dropping vials that turn your shot into a specific power up (depending on which color you fired), clouds that hold spheres together, and lastly these annoying robots that move into your way after every shot.
To get rid of the robots you need to cut them down by removing clusters above/behind them.
The vials are color coded to the various powerups so if you hit a vial with a blue it removes a row horizontally, hit it with a yellow and it removes a row vertically, and red destroys a wide area around it like a bomb. If you hit it with a purple, all the spheres around it turn purple, and if you hit it with pink it works similar to the bomb and vertical cut.
You can hit the vortex and clouds directly with any color to remove them, but I found it better to get all the clusters around them for more points because shooting a cloud breaks your combo.
When you reach these later levels you need to be more strategic with your shots, the new things sprawled across the board can really screw you up and you have a limited number of shots for each level.
As for the bosses you need to work fast, when you destroy clusters it sends them over to the bosses side and their screen fills up like Tetris, you need to fill their side up as fast as you can, they will overcome you pretty quickly if you let them. Always focus on the spheres closest to the bottom.
One more thing I felt was important to mention is "dropping" bubbles awards you no points, only bubbles popped. So try to get as many clusters popped as you can with out dropping too many down and missing out on the points. Some levels I got the third star in one of my last shots.
Persistence is the key, I had to replay some levels quite a few times.
*This game can be completed without micro-transactions, although paying a little at the end may make the experience less painful since it seems a lot of people are struggling.
