How to unlock the Explorer achievement

For this achievement player must complete 5 APEX missions.

APEX missions are a subset of strike team missions. Not all strike team missions are APEX missions. APEX missions are indicated by Andromeda symbol on them (icon). These missions - unlike regular strike team missions - can be played online OR player can send strike teams to complete them.

Achievement requiers to complete 5 of those missions - win or lose. You can't combine methods of obtaining it though, you have to choose in which method are you going to get five games - are you going to play them online in multiplayer, or are you going to send strike teams to complete them (you can't play 3 online and send 2 strike teams to unlock this achievement - have to be 5 in selected route).

Progress can be checked in game's multiplayer menu, on challenges section.

Upon completion player is rewarded with stuff for single player campaign and points to unlock more strike teams or equipment for teams.

Player can use APEX HQ mobile app (EA profile tied to gamertag is needed along wit mobile of course :) ) in order to make progress towards this achievement. That's the way I did it - on xbox one I sent 2 or 3 teams, rest was done on mobile.

A lot of people have trouble unlocking this achievement. I too was frustrated that the achievement didn't unlock for me when it should. The way I tried to do it was from Tempest deck in single player game. Strike missions can also be accessed from multiplayer menu. So I went there, started to browse through menus and when I opened APEX challenges section both achievements - this and Veteran - unlocked.

Note, that for me progress bar for this achievement on xbox one was at the 0% all the time - it never went up. Other gamers reported that this is also the case, so you shouldn't stress too much about it.

My guess is that you have to complete tutorial in order to start making progress on it / unlock it.

So you don't have to accept missions results on strike missions screen in order to unlock this achievement. It may be needed though because you have to trigger something in game menus which will check mission counter in order to unlock achievement (eg browse through APEX challenges in multiplayer menu).

Also, my suggestion is not to mix two methods of obtaining this achievement, as this may be a factor (eg: when you switch method, achievement counter gets reset to 0). But it may be a wild guess.

Stevo6483The description of this achievement isn't really the clearest, but you are right that it is only the APEX missions that seem to count. The 'standard' strike team missions do not. I got it this morning after sending 4 strike teams to do the APEX missions via the mobile app, and completing the 5th APEX mission myself via the multiplayer menu on Xbox. I sent a couple of the strike teams to do these missions before I did the tutorial mission too, so I don't think it matters about doing that before going for the APEX missions.

UPDATE: Despite the achievement descriptions for this (Explorer) and Veteran being pretty much identical aside from the number of missions required, the criteria for unlocking the achievements seems to differ significantly.

As already stated I unlocked Explorer only after completing 5 APEX missions - the non-APEX missions didn't seem to count despite the Explorer challenge in the Prestige -> Accomplishments menu being completed at least 3 times prior. The Veteran achievement however seems to count both APEX & non-APEX missions.

For Explorer to unlock I completed the 5th APEX mission myself on the console and the achievement popped on the game summary screen. Veteran only unlocked when I navigated to the Accomplishments menu after I'd debriefed my strike team on the console following completion of the 25th mission (APEX and non-APEX). Seems the screen where the achievements pop also differs depending on whether you complete the 5th or 25th missions yourself or you have a strike team do it. Go figure!

Ryn0 LIt unlocked for me right after playing my first multiplayer quick match game. I had sent tons of strike teams already, so I was confused. Perhaps you need to not only do the tutorial (I did it twice) but also play a round?

XellizI've completed a lot more than 5 missions. Still don't have this achievement.

I Argonaut II completed the requirement for this many times over. Some missions from the game (sent strike team alone), but most from the phone app. The achievement would only pop when I went into the multiplayer screen when I had exactly 5 complete so it would show 0/5 remaining and a bunch of times I had completed it.

Gilbert PrimeLooks to me like the whole thing is buggy. I was surprised to get Explorer after my strike teams completed 2 APEX and 3 regular missions. I hadn't done anything in multiplayer yet, not even the tutorial.
