I did it in 27.2 days. Keep status good or excellent as much as possible.

For power/water, I always bought largest sizes. For all the habitable structures, I bought the smallest sizes, except for the biodome, which I always purchased as medium size.

For the duration of this achievement, I never bought any upgrades from trading ships; I generally disabled trading landing permissions for fear it would cut into colonist arrivals.

I started with solar panel, power storage, water extractor, oxygen and airlock.

Next I got a medium biodome, canteen, dorm, processing, mine and landing pad.

I got second medium biodome asap because food becomes the first bottleneck when colonist start arriving.

You'll also need manufacturing for spares and sickbay to deal with injuries.

After getting all the basics established, keep expanding adding energy, energy storage, water, oxygen, canteens, and dorms in a balanced fashion. Food is critical, so you'll want make sure you stay ahead of starvation by getting biodomes earlier than you think.

In general, I just kept expanding outward but I made one adjustment to the original area. After I had added a second airlock, I recycled the first airlock and then built a control center and remade the first airlock from that. I had to leave enough room near the mines and landing pad to allow for this. I was worried about attackers when they show up later, but I don't think I had any before getting the achievement. I also got lucky with sandstorms, so I didn't need the control center until late in the game. (You will need the control center if you plan to continue on and get the Express Colony achievement.)

Make regular saves, e.g. every 10 colonists. If you run into trouble roll back to last save where things were still good and then build from there to preempt whatever became an issue.



My complete build comprised the following facilities:

Power/Water/Oxygen/Landing Pad (always biggest size)
3 Solar Panels
2 Wind Turbines
4 Power Collectors
4 Water Extractors
1 Water Storage Tank
4 Oxygen Generators
1 Landing Pad

Food/Materials (always smallest except medium Biodomes)
4 Medium Biodomes (Favored Mushrooms Wheat and Potatoes. Diversified more in later domes)
3 Mines (last mine added late)
2 Processing Plants (2 Metal, 2 Bioplastic each)
1 Laboratory (2 Workbenches 6 Tissue Synthesizers, added gradually)
1 Factory (2 Spares first, later Semiconductor and Gun added)
1 Robotics Lab (didn't really use this but anticipating Express Colony Achievement)

Habitats (always smallest)
3 Canteens
3 Dorms
1 Sickbay
1 Bar
1 Cabin
1 Security Center
