During your trip into life support you will find Mikhalia laying on the floor needing your help. When you talk to her she will give you a side quest which is timed and must be completed within the next 2 hours. Complete the main mission and restore the power so you can go in and out of the area through the air lock across from the room she is located in.

Now float around to her office and grab the item from her desk and return to give it to her. This will allow you to get another side quest later on for an achievement.
