After you beat the main quest the giants quest will show up on the map as "Giants Return." When you first trigger this you will have two options, attempt to recruit the Weatherer or fight the Umbral Lord. The dialog options will note that whichever one you chose locks you out of the other. For this achievement choose to just fight the Umbral Lord. For this path, you'll want to be able to reliably beat 4 and 5 skull challenges without mortally wounding your characters.

From this point to get the Umbral Lord to appear you'll need to defeat enough giants from either map enemy groups or events. Once you defeated a fair number the Umbral Lord will appear and you can challenge him. At the start of the quest an orange skull giant enemy group will appear on the map, find them and defeat them. Other giant groups come from events or "giant's lairs" on the map. Run your expedition around until you've completed several, 5+, of these. The most common giant event I've seen is a fallen character\loot event where you can choose to wait or run away. Choose wait, then fight the giant.

After winning 5+ of these fights the Umbral Lord will appear. You will need to resolve either a 3 skull hunt or 4 skull physical challenge to catch up to it.

The final challenge will be a 5 red skull fight. This fight is no joke with the primary enemy having over 500 health.

My tips for defeating the quest this way is to grow your expedition to a ridiculous size 20+ characters. Run them around the map fighting and exploring for 300+ turns. Keep their gear updated as the challenge difficulty increases. By the time you're reaching turns 300+ you should be able to auto-battle basically all challenges, fighting the Umbral Lord at that point you can use your weaker characters to soak up damage for your attackers.

My recommended build is great sword and shield for many characters, occasional ax wielders in the mix. Shielding value is nice because it is extra health every round of a combat. If you are struggling and don't want to grind more turns you could pull in your civilians from the city as shields, but at 100% difficulty by turns 400 you should be fairly strong. If you are struggling check your equipment and make sure you have a combat expedition of 20+.
