First things first. Make sure you set your xbox so that it doesn't turn off after a certain amount of time.

Settings - All Settings - Power & Startup - Click Power Mode & Startup
Top Left, 1st Option "Turn off After" Set it to Don't turn off automatically

Secondly, make sure you plug your controller into the xbox via a play n charge cable, otherwise your controller will time out and may or may not screw up the process.

Now all you have to do is either play the game naturally which i dont really see anyone playing this game in-game for 500 hours. So enter a level, and move your ball at least once. if u dont move your ball at least once the timer doesn't actually start. At least it didn't for me when the game first came out so i would do it just to be safe. Then go do something else and let it sit. Once you come back to the game MAKE SURE YOU FINISH THE HOLE. If you dont finish the hole it doesn't track the time u spent in the level.

I did the 5, 10 & 24hrs achievements so far. I won't make a solution for each one tho but u can use this method to farm the hours all the way to 500 hrs. It will take just under 21 days of farming this.

Per ScuzzyBunny: You can actually shorten the time by half if you have a 2nd console. What I did was have my "home" console set to offline, with Star Balls running a level, then when I went to bed or work I would set my other console (online) to idle a level with a wired controller. Once every few days I would LOG OUT of my profile on the online console (if you don't log out, you will lose progress), then "go online" on the other box, finish the hole, and have my progress tracked for the achv. Then I would "go offline" and repeat. I made the mistake of not going offline once and lost 20 or 30 hours, but still got my 500 in 19 days from start to completion, with about 10 of those just being one console running. It only took 6 days for me to get my last 250 hours, so 12 days is completely doable, depending on how long you want two consoles idling.

Since Xbox has changed some things around in addition to xWhatTheHawks guide you will also have to do the following to keep your xbox from timing out and showing you notifications (friends signing on, streaming, recent achievements, etc)

Settings ->
Preferences ->
Idle Options ->
Show me things when idle (Uncheck)

This combined with a wired controller should solve your problems.

Good luck!
