I didn't wanna go with boss fights so I did some research and found another method with which you can level you legendary item up to max rank relatively fast (though it is still hell of a grind)

First off pick a character which you are comfortable with and which will have no problem dealing with elites having a blue or yellow aura. I personally picked iceman but you may also pick scarlet witch since she has an insta-kill ability affecting all enemies but bosses.

Then of course get a legendary item and equip it. All but the helmet of the all-father (25 legendary marks) will cost 300 legendary marks. You can collect those by hunting doops or completing legendary missions. If you are very impatient and willing to invest some money into the game you might as well but currency booster from the store which will give you marks for every defeated boss while it is active. (But it’s been reported to be buggy since it only gives you a single boost instead of the stacked one)

No matter what legendary item you pick you will need the same xp for ranks which are:

Rank 1: 30 mil xp
Rank 2: 90 mil xp (50 mil after update)
Rank 3: 150 mil xp (80 mil after update)
Rank 4: 240 mil xp (150 mil after update)
Rank 5: 360 mil (240 mil after update)

Special Thx at Buddabane who reminded me to add, that you will need the xp mentioned to gain the next rank and after reaching the next higher rank the xp needed adds up on top. So you will need 30 mil from rank 1 to 2, 50 mil from 2 to 3 and so on. Thx again, otherwise it could have been a bit misleading.

To maximize your xp get as much heroes to LVL 60 as possible because they will give you extra 10% xp for each maxed out hero. In my case I just wanted the cheevos so i maxed out just the 5 required for “super team” achievement.
In addition you want to have a catalyst item equipped preferably with +xp gained as saracin pointed out.
Further you want to beat at least super heroic if not cosmic trial to get another xp boost of 150% for playing on super heroic and 240% for playing on cosmic difficulty.
(Also get some decent gear from patrols on super heroic to raise your durability and damage output.)
Again there is the possibility to get extra xp if you are willing to buy experience boosters in store which will give you a maximum of 200% xp when used as a 5 stack for 2.5 hours. Timer of the boost stops when you are in any HQ so if you wanna sort out your stash etc. always make sure to go there to prevent from wasting time.

The method for collecting xp is simply doing treasure room runs on hells kitchen South and buccaneer beach in story mode since there are 5 fairly easy and quick to reach treasure rooms also situated always almost at the same spots. For HKS it's going right at the start and then far right after clearing the first room. On BB it's 1 at the beach and 2 on the opposite site.
Besides xp for the killed enemies you will get a treasure chest dropping several xp balls for clearing a room.
However after clearing all 5 the rooms enemies and chest won't reset unless you go to HQ and swap heroes (main hero to another one and back). Maps will stay revealed after your first run so you will see exactly where to go in the following ones which speeds up the run.
Doing this on super heroic or cosmic will grant you a good amount of xp earned each run each 5 respective 8 minutes in my case (depending on the chosen char you might be even faster). Super heroic got me comparatively more xp due to less time for killing everything and completing a full run.

With boosts active (yeah I know i am very impatient and rather spend money than grinding hours longer :) ) i gained 4 mil each super heroic run and 5 mil for each cosmic one. In comparison I only had 3 mil in 6 minutes doing the taskmaster operation.

Here is a clip of me doing a run and before showing catalyst with 8% xp gain. Total bonus xp of 250 with 5 heroes maxed out, catalyst and boost active as well as starting xp on legendary item (just explaining because game language is german)

Hope this helps. If I need to improve the solution or clarify sth lemme know I in the comments. Happy grinding ^.^

No matter how you cut it this is by far the grindiest achievement in the game. There are a few important things to have in place before you focus solely on this achievement:

1. If you have at least 10 unlocked heroes, have 10 of them at level 60. This will give you the maximum 100% XP boost for level 60 heroes. Once you get 5 heroes to 60 you'll also get the Super Team achievement.

2. Find a catalyst that has a 10% experience boost which is the maximum you can come across.

3. Pass the Omega Trial with the hero you have the Legendary equipped on. Playing on Omega difficulty grants a 400% base XP boost. It will also allow you to collect Omega level gear to increase your power and get through the grind faster.

4. For every hero you rank to 60 (not including prestiges) you get a rewarded a box that contains a boost. Use as many combination and XP boosts as you can. The maximum boost you can get is 200% XP at 5 XP/Combination consumed, but each additional boost adds time.

5. Of course if you spend money you can buy more boosts and will have an additional 5% XP boost for being a VIP Account if you spend at least $5, but it is just as easy to do this without spending a dime.

Now comes the fun part of where to utilize these XP increases!

While Omega Patrol in theory has the highest XP available, you are relying on other players to help beat event bosses. If the population or skill level is low this it isn't ideal as many events will not be finished. If you have a good group or you find an instance with a high population have at it.

I typically stuck to the Church of Purification operation on Omega difficulty as I could beat this in under 5 minutes while still getting both of the bounty chests for defeating a total of 225 enemies before fighting Juggernaut.

Without breaking down stats, I did this by using Spider-Man with full Shards of Cyttorak Omega armor and a movement build as well as the rest of my gear filled with high end equipment. Obviously your taste in character and build may and probably will differ, but to tear through the operation quickly you'll want to have full Omega gear and top end items in your other slots.

I went through and quickly killed the 225 enemies by focusing on the low level enemies and not touching any elites (blue or gold) enemies. Once I hit the 225 number and ensured both Bounty Chests I beelined to Juggernaut, defeated him and repeated. Each run (without using XP boosts) yielded between 3.5 million to 5 million XP per.

If you don't buy a Legendary (300 Legendary marks from a vendor in any of the story HQs) before starting this process you'll need a total of 550 million XP to get it to level 5. If you got my low end XP of 3.5 million XP on every run you could run this operation 158 times to max it out from 0. Presumably, you'd have a good mix of higher XP runs and potentially had your Legendary before the process started. I had mine at Lvl. 3 prior to starting this process so I ran somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 times to get it completely upgraded.

All in all if you are starting from scratch and use this method (without boosters) you are looking at roughly 10-11 hours to max it out. Shorter if using boosts or your Legendary is partially leveled.
