If you are looking to get this done quick, like most EA games during that time you could simulate. The achievement will pop if you simulate the season.

I CAN NOT guarantee if you simulate the whole season without participating in a single race if that will work. I had to race a few times to move up in the standings once in a while. I participated in approximately 7 races and took about 45 minutes total time.

There are 36 races total in the season to complete. You can adjust your settings when you are setting up your season and only then I believe. These are my recommendations:

Series: Nextel Cup **required**
Schedule: '07 Schedule **required**
Race length: 3%
Wear factor: Off
Number of Opponents: 42 **may be required?**
Strength: Easy
Damage: Visual Only
Collisions: On **may be required?**
Flag Rules: Full **may be required?**

** I left these as may be required because I know another achievement requires the full field of 42. As for the others I felt those may be as well but this did not hinder my ability to pull away from the AI

Now you will pick your driver. I am not sure if there are driver statistics/tendencies to make one better than the other but I did notice Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin, and Tony Stewart were more frequently the winners after a simulation so I picked Jeff Gordon.
* That was the way MY game seemed after a few races in a prior attempt to play every race. YOUR game may have an AI driver who is always a pain in your behind...pick him. With the settings we made it really doesn't matter much.

I began the game simulating the first 20 or so races periodically checking the standings. Once I reached 2/3 through the season and was trailing the leader by 266 points, I raced once at the Brickyard 400 and rocketed to the top of the standings.

**You will want to qualify before the race to get your best time and attempt to start in 1st or 2nd. This helps you pull away from the pack and avoid collisions almost entirely. The key to qualifying is 1) if you aren't a comfortable driver, especially in this game that has a mind of its own, then you should practice before qualifying to familiarize yourself with the track and the car. No shame there, these cars WILL do whatever they want sometimes. 2) I only follow the line on straightaways, typically I would drive 10-20 MPH faster then I should have through turns. You do not want to hit the wall of course but it's best to let off the gas coming to a turn rather than braking then continue accelerating through he turn. Your car will spark but there is no wear on your vehicle, we turned that off. Most turns are more than 10 degrees and you can get through them at about 150-170 MPH depending on the turn. After your first of two qualifying laps you will receive your starting position if you already have "1 / 43" displayed take it easy and don't crash no need you have the poll and will start in first. Honestly anything above 10th starting position is more than manageable for an amateur driver. Remember to draft and slingshot around your opponents.

You receive leaderboard points for winning races and where you place, but you also get extra points for leading laps. That is how I rocketed up the leaderboard as I mentioned.

There is an option to disable autosave in the save menu, but I could not get it to work. It would continue to save my game anyway. So if you are getting close to the end of the season and amateur rent sure if you can reach the top spot in time. I'd suggest race every race. I am not sure how many points are awarded for what but I would say trailing by 250 points with 10 races left would be where I jumped in to make sure no simulation messed me up due to my autosave issue.

Using Jeff Gordon:
Races by me = 7 1st place (after qualifying 1st, 2nd, 17th, 38th)(lead many laps due to starting position for extra points)

Simulated = 29
1st: 1
2nd: 7
Top 5: 5
Top 10: 7
Other: 9

Good Luck! I hope this helps you with your hunting. If you have any issues or questions please let me know.
