There are a total of 68 challenges in Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 - 10 each for Mega Man 7 & 8, 20 for Mega Man 9, and 38 for Mega Man 10, so you basically only need to get Gold on 50 of these challenges.

There are several types of challenges, with some locked until you complete a number of other challenges, and each one requires a specific amount of time for the three medals (Gold, Silver, and Bronze):

1) Stage Remix - a random selection of in-game stages, but unlike in the original Legacy Collection, it's only a mixture of stages in each game (IE only stages in Mega Man 7, no crossing between 7 & 8 and so on).

2) Sub-Boss Rush - you are required to defeat in-game sub-bosses (like the Crab Robot in Burst Man's stage in 7) one after another until you've beaten them all.

3) Boss Rush - you're automatically taken to the Boss Teleport Room in Wily's Castle and have to pick and fight the game's Robot Masters. Note: For the Boss Rush of Mega Man 8, you have to first fight the giant hermit crab from the prologue stage, and then you'll be taken to the teleport room for the game's Robot Masters.

4) Wily Boss Time Attack - you must defeat a specific boss from Wily's Castle in a certain amount of time. Thank fully, it's only one boss per time attack; although when you face the Wily Machine form any of the 4 games, it's still one huge fight against 2-3 forms of Wily's penultimate machine with only one exception - Mega Man 10's final battle (since it took place from its own stage rather than the same stage as Wily's 10th Machine).

WARNING: Wily Machine 7 in Mega Man 7 is THE HARDEST FINAL BOSS FIGHT EVER! I spent over an hour trying to get Gold on the Time Attack for this. the first form is easy-peasy - just slide and jump while hitting Wily in the face with the Thunder Bolt (Cloud Man's weapon) about 14 times. The next phase, though, you will be pulling your hair out - Wily's Capsule is CHEAP! Rather than take up a lot of time and text, follow this link for more info:

5) No Items Challenges - this is only limited to Sub-Boss and Boss Rushes, but as the name says, you are restricted to using only your Mega Buster for these challenges. There are only 8 of these specific challenges, 2 per game (unless you count the 9 challenges listed at 7.)

6) Fake Man Time Attack - only found in the Mega Man 9 challenges, this boss was an exclusive if you purchased the special stage for Mega Man 9. He jumps around and fires 6 times (when fired upon) and then needs to reload. His weakness is the Jewel Satellite from Jewel man (which you have access to), as it reflects his shots and if those reflected shots hit Fake Man, he'll take damage, AND he takes more damage from touching the Jewel Satellite. BUT you are likely to run out of energy for the Jewel Satellite before you defeat Fake Man, so try to reflect his shots as best you can at him before you touch him with it.

7) Mega Man Killer Time Attack - only found in the challenges for Mega Man 10, there are 3 special Robot Masters originally from the Gameboy series (Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge, III, and IV respectively) that were available as DLC, and each one has a time attack challenge for Mega Man, Proto Man, and Bass. The worst part of these fights is each MMK is only vulnerable to weapons from one another... which you DO NOT GET for their fights. You get the weapons from the game's 8 Robot masters, but they're all useless. In short, you're stuck using your normal weapons

7)a) Enker - His weapon is the Mirror Buster, which he uses to absorb the attacks he takes while holding up his sword arm and reflects it back at you after a few seconds; the more hits he takes while in this pose, the bigger his released attack. He alternates between long jumps, short jumps (he'll land in the middle of the room), and dashing forward (again, either the full length of the room or half the length). His attacks and his dashes are easy to jump over, just get the timing down.

7)b) Punk - The hardest of the 3 Mega Man Killers, he has basically two attacks: first he jumps and throws spinning blades at you at varying angles (which you can either jump over or let them fly over you), and second he transforms into a giant spinning saw and jumps a few times before flinging himself at you; the second attack you can run under or jump over - just stay a good distance away form Punk when he transforms and wait until he flies at you.

7)c) Ballade - The easier of the 3 MMK (IMHO), he jumps around 2-3 times, leaving bombs behind where he jumped, and then charges you. Sometimes, if he's at the far end of the room, he'll throw a bomb at you. The bombs are easily destroyed by shooting them, but don't get too close when you shoot, otherwise the explosion will damage you.

TIPS:

-In 7, 9, and 10, the cn_B in default settings is the auto-fire button, This comes in handy in certain challenges, especially the Sub-Boss Rush - No Items ones.
-The Sub-Boss Rushes with No Items that are easy to do (IMHO) are in 7 and 9 respectively, especially with the auto fire button in 7.
-You can use the cn_LB and cn_RB in 7, 8, and 10 to quickly switch weapons/items without using the Weapons menu.
-In the Wily Machine 8 challenge (Mega Man 8), if you get low on health and/or weapon energy, go into the Weapons menu, move to Items, and select the White Box icon in the Rush section to have Rush fly back and forth the top of the screen to drop multiple recovery items (weapons AND health).
-You are given infinite lives (supposedly) in the challenge AND when you die your weapon energy gets refilled, BUT you are given NO Energy Tanks at all. The only way to recover lost life energy is to kill minor enemies or (in the (Sub-)Boss challenges) get killed and try again with a new life at the cost of time.
-Proto Man takes more damage than Mega Man, but he can slide AND charge up his Proto Buster to deliver a more powerful attack on enemies.
-Bass takes less damage than Mega Man, he can dash forward instead of slide, and he can rapid fire his main weapon but his main weapon's shots deliver less damage.
-Learn the patterns of your enemies; it'll make it easier to hit them and move on.
-When you can avoid a fight, avoid it - you'll cut down on time by not wasting it on enemies that can easily be avoided or jumped over.
