How to unlock the No Way? No Way! achievement

    Locked 16 Aug 2017 21 Aug 2017
Note to get this done quickly: Once you unlock debug mode by collecting 9-16 gold or silver medallions (the exact requirements are not yet clear), I'm fairly certain you can just spawn coins and checkpoints with it to get an endless supply of chances. I hope to confirm this shortly.

There are a total of 32 gold medallions you can unlock in Bonus stages. To enter a bonus stage, you need to cross a mid-level checkpoint with at least 25 coins. When you do, you'll see some stars appear above the checkpoint. Turn around and jump into the stars to start the Bonus stage.

You play each bonus stage sequentially. They get progressively harder as you play.

To get gold, you'll need to complete two primary objectives:

    1. Collect all blue orbs.
    2. Collect all rings.

If you hit a red orb, you lose. When you run over a blue orb, it turns red.

To spawn all the coins in the level, you'll need to make a ring around certain groups of blue orbs. Any group of blue orbs that's 3x3 or greater can turn into rings. Simply run in a circle around the blue orbs without going into the middle. Once you surround them with red, all the red and blue orbs turn into rings. This sounds complicated, but it's really quite easy. You can see it in each of the videos below.

The ideal way to do this is to intentionally leave a small group of blue orbs open that can't turn into rings and then go around turning all the groups of blue orbs into rings. Once the ring counter is zero and the blue orb counter just has your little group left, finish it off to complete the Bonus stage.

You can see an example of how to complete a Bonus stage in the video below:

Each time you complete a bonus stage, you unlock a special reward. You can play as many in a single level as you can fit in, so you might as well start working right away. The unlocks and medallions do carry over across playthroughs.

Track Progress? You can track your progress in the bottom right hand corner of the extra's menu.

Do Tracks Repeat? It's not clear if tracks you have gold on will repeat. You can definitely get repeats of tracks you failed before getting new ones.

    Need some help?
Check out these two video's. They're not mine but they show decent routes for every map. When you enter a bonus level, check the colors of the floor pattern and then find that pattern in one of these two videos.

DeanxXxNwOxXxI just did this in a day of grinding it. It is 100% doable

Bort BortsonThis is a serious grind. I easily played many hundreds of hours in Sonic 3 & Knuckles on the Genesis when I was younger (I would make 2 save games of each character option, 1 with all chaos emeralds, another with the hyper emeralds, and redo it again and again), so much that the levels that were from those games in this game my muscle memory still kicked in 30 years later. The problem is that some developer somewhere is laughing their @$$ off because they made new levels with either no logical flow or that they save the hardest trick for the very end when you are going way faster than you used to in the Genesis games. It is doable but I've had less tedious ~4.6 ratio achievements that I didnt already have years of necessary skills than this.

My advice: take breaks and at the start of each level try and remember what trick there was in the level that made you mess up. It took about 3 days of grinding 2 hours a day to knock them out from scratch. Do not be afraid in the ones that are not a one way path to do some of the harder sections first, then come back and grab the coins leaving only two or 4 blue dots that cant turn into coins. You can jump over two bubbles if you time it right, and for those seemingly one way paths of 2 blue dots, take the first one and hop over the second, grab the hard parts while your speed is low so you can come back, get the coins, then just do an easy two jumps. Or for ones where the level is more circular and you make multiple trips along the same path, stick to the right (or same) side so you dont have to make extra movements and dodge red dots on the return trip. Taking breaks will clear you head if you start getting one map confused with another. There were several ones that for whatever reason my mind was just not processing correctly, or not seeing the path at the end. After taking a break I knocked it out and couldnt see what was causing me the problem.

    Good luck

Confirming that debug mode does nothing for this now.
Confirming that that is a pile of rubbish: I set up the majority of the Bonus Stages via Debug Mode and both this and Full Medal Jacket unlocked upon obtaining my last Gold and Silver medal respectively.

Also I do share similar sentiments to Bort Bortson regarding the Bonus Stages, I feel multiple of them straight up force trial and error or looking up a guide for the solution, and if you manage to do that then imo you’re a bad ‘puzzle’, put bluntly.

I wont bother covering off the runs to get the Perfect runs. But i will provide a tip to make it easier for you when you are attempting to do a level.

If you are doing a bonus level and you hit the red spheres, dashboard out BEFORE you return to the main game world. Once you reload the game, the next bonus level you get will be the same one you just failed.

As long as you have dashboarded before the game world pops up, the random seed, or whatever is used to determine the bonus level the checkpoint will give you next time you hit it, will stay the same. Allowing you unlimited attempts of the same map without having to deal with rotation.

PaleBlueDot79Thank you! One of the big problems I’ve been having is that I can’t simply practice the same level over and over until I get it.

WarMachine9494Thank you for the tip. Probably the only reason I got that achievement.

This can be attained on the first act of Green Hill Zone.

Follow the route shown in the video to gain access to 2 different Star Posts (for the Medallions) and a Giant Ring (for the Chaos Emeralds) with 1 more Star Post afterwards.

There are 32 different Special Stages to complete. To get both silver and gold in each stage you will need to get a 'Perfect' score (collect every Blue Sphere and Ring).

There are also 7 different UFO Chase Zones to complete. Collect Blue Spheres to speed up and Rings to extend your remaining time to catch up to the UFO.
