There are plenty of ways to survive in this game. Everyone has their own playstyles, but the most important thing to know is how to save scum. If you die in your world, immediately exit the server instead of resetting it. From the main menu, select your server from the “host game” tab. Before you reenter your server, there is a menu with several tabs (forest world, cave world, bans, etc). Select the “rollback” tab, and you can reload any previous save in your world by selecting it and pressing A.

The game saves in two different ways: once at the start of every new day, and once every time the server is exited by the host. This is beneficial because if you die, you can reset your world to at least the start of that day you died. It is also a good habit to exit your game at any crucial moments (getting health back, hounds defeated, before a boss) so that the game manually saves and you have a “checkpoint” you can reload if you need to.

It is also possible to change the server settings at the creation of your server. Although I survived my first seventy days with default seasons, you should be able to disable every season except autumn and theoretically still get the achievement. Eternal autumn is extremely easy as you don’t have to brave the elements of ice/rain/fire or deal with deerclops.

Again, everyone has their own playstyles. There are plenty of youtube videos discussing the pros/cons of each character and base build. I used Webber and had a very basic base. I planted my spider nest in very close proximity to my base and would feed myself by aggro-ing the spiders from that and lead them into traps. I would then usually dry the meat (I only used six drying racks) or put it in my crockpot if I had three other fruits/veggies. Crockpots are extremely beneficial during all seasons. Meatballs are the easiest to craft, and can be made by combining a piece of monster meat and three fruits/veggies or by substituting in regular meat. Outside of this, I would forage while exploring. I only had two improved farms and would argue that they're not necessary, especially since they're useless for 30/70 days.

Your base should be set up next to a beefalo field or pig village if you start a fight you can’t win.

As far as clothes go: if you do decide to have default seasons, thermal stones are a must for summer/winter. Thermal stones can be charged to be ice cold if you stand next to an endothermic fire for a few seconds, or spicy hot if you stand next to a regular fire. Used in combination with a choice hat (I used winter hat in winter and only used the eyebrella for spring/summer) it’s impossible to die from temperature damage. It isn’t necessary to kill the deerclops for the eyebrella, but it’s super helpful for spring and summer. Regardless, when you hear him spawn, I would advise save scumming to the start of the day and camping out at the nearest pig village so he doesn’t get up in your structural business. I also had log armor on through the entire seventy days.
