This solution will be more for where to explore rather than how. You can do this achievement the conventional way by scanning everything that's "Unexplored" in a bunch of systems, but below are some resources that take you on a path to scan Water Worlds, Earth Likes, and High Metal Content worlds. All of which are worth about 400k-1.2m each. So grab your ship with the best LY jump range, outfit it with an Advanced Discovery Scanner, Detailed Surface Scanner, Fuel Scoop, Heat Sink Launcher, and an Auto Field Maintanence kit and get to scanning.

This link is a list that will take you on a huge path that's only about 100LY outside the bubble. The Water Worlds, Earth Likes, and High Metal Content worlds are all you'll be scanning in these systems unless you want to spend the time scanning everything. If you just scan what the list tells you to you'll make a lot more credits faster. There's 557 total planets to scan (not including stars). As of the writing of this solution I've only scanned the first 81 on the list and have made about 50m+ in credits.

This link sort of acts like this list above, but instead of a pre-determined route you punch in the name of the system you're currently in and it will build you a route based on your location, showing you the nearest Water, Earth Like, and High Metal Content Worlds that net the most credits.

I hope these resources help you on your journey to Elite. Please comment if you have any questions.
