Once you've finished the main episode once, you'll unlock a new option on the menu allowing you to redo Chapter 3 but with the option to "play along" with Ardyn. Choose this option and you'll be able to fight Ardyn a second time, this time actually being able to defeat him.

It's a slow but easy fight as Ardyn has a lot of health, but keep hitting away and you'll get there. When the ring runs low on power, you want to select the "risk your life" option on the first ask, then on the second choose to sacrifice your life. This will start a timer but should be plenty of time in which to finish off Ardyn.

I am unsure if repeating the "fight back" option allows you to defeat Ardyn or if, like in the main episode, it ends the fight early before he has run out of health, but you'll want to pick the "play along" option to see the alternative storyline anyway.

^ Win the fight and get your chevo. I just wanted to tag a little add-on to those who struggled with this like I did.

From my understanding, there are essentially 3 phases to the fight. The first is the just before the "risk your life option". Typical button mashing and hoping you don't get beat up too badly. I had the best luck using the fire element for it seems to do the most damage. Could be coincidental but I wasn't willing to experiment at the time. The 2nd phase is after that option and utilized a similar strategy.

The 3rd phase is where I struggled greatly. This generally occurs around 50% health remaining. "Sacrifice your life" gives you a timer and I had a very difficult time finishing the fight in time until I finally understood the strategy to beating him. When the phase first begins, you can combo the crap out of him with the basic "B" button attack and get the damage meter up to 40x (or higher, cannot recall). I found that he would eventually start countering all your basic attacks, especially when he only has very low health remaining. At this point, I stopped trying to combo and switched to hitting the "B" button just once. He would always counter this. Then, you start using your counter-attack method. The "X" button should appear followed by the "B" button. This will do a decent amount of damage to him. Follow this by hitting the "B" button once more and allow him to "counter" you so you can "counter his counter". Keep your health up and rinse and repeat until dead. I barely finished with 10 secs or so left... good luck.

@qManballin Cheers for the addition support, One advice I can give (in case you didn't know) is that the more you keep choosing the "risk your life" option, the more time you have to bring down his health before the timed "sacrifice your life" option is forced upon you. I believe you can choose risk your life two times before losing the option and being forced to sacrifice? I personally still have 1 minute 20 left after using risk my life once.

A method you can use once Ardyn starts blocking your fire attacks is switching weapon type, attacking mid air with the ice blades still damages him due to AOE whilst the lightning blades also allows for some quick attacks that he generally doesnt block, however I often missed with those so I'd advise to avoid the lightning blades.

It doesn't actually matter if you sacrifice your soul, sense or do nothing.
The achievement pops as long as you defeat Ardyn

Did it on easy and chose to risk my life twice before being forced to sacrifice it.
Had almost 3 minutes left when the fight ended....
