This achievement will unlock when any type of pickaxe is made. Planks are not required for the unlock.

    Actions
    In order to craft sticks, you need to wooden planks and then an additional three planks to craft the pickaxe. Open your crafting menu with Y and craft some sticks and then the pickaxe.
