This achievement starts off being extremely hard due to a very harsh difficulty curve at the start of the game. Fortunately, if you can make it past the Totem Boss, the game becomes much more manageable.

As far as class goes, I found that the Vanguard is best suited for surviving the early level difficulty curve. Plus, if you haven't gotten it already, you should get

At first, you will have to fight enemy waves strategically. You will be using a lot of hit and run tactics, swing once at an enemy and then quickly avoid it's next attack. Since the game uses an HP regen feature, you can run around in circles until your HP increases.

As you start getting level ups, you will have to carefully select your skills. As far as Attributes go, I selected 'Strength' through the whole game, giving me 15 in that stat and nothing in the other two. This works out as it will increase your attack power, max HP, and HP regen rate.
As far the tree skills, you will focus on getting the Shield Bash and AOE ground smash attack (cn_B). These not only do decent damage, but can hit multiple enemies at once and have added slow or stun effects that give you bigger windows of attack. Best of all, once maxed out, the Shield Bash costs 0MP, so you can use it over and over again. You will also want to get level 1 of the other two top tier skills so you can unlock the lower tier abilities. The scream attack (cn_Y) is fairly useless and you should not waste any further points on it.

Another huge factor in making it through the first section of the game (albeit luck related) is to get decent gear. Generally, I found that loot you find on Hard is a bit better than those on easier difficulties. Just make sure to search all of each map before continuing to the hub. You don't want to miss out on any gear.

Keep in mind that some heavy weapons may have higher attack power, but if it is a two handed weapon, you won't be able to use your shield or the Shield Bash attack.

Try to keep a stockpile of spells for emergencies. Since HP and MP automatically regenerate, you may want to take a breather once completing a wave and let your meters refill before continuing on. I try to keep max stock of potions to use during boss fights are waves of enemies in which you are struggling. BEWARE: If you lose, with the exception of some of the boss fights, you will have to restart the entire level. Obviously if you have full stock and there are potions scattered around the ground, you can use some if you need it and pick up the new ones to replenish.

One of the biggest obstacles in making it through Hard mode is keeping the NPC allies alive in sections where you have to escort. The friendly A.I is horrible and if they die, you get a game over (i.e restart the whole level). So, don't activate an NPC until you have already cleared out as much of the map as possible. If you do meet a wave while escorting an NPC, kill the enemies as fast as possible while trying to keep them away from the ally. Use potions as necessary.

There is one point where you have to clear a bunch of enemy waves before destroying a bridge. There is an NPC in this section that is there to help. DON'T LET HIM. Keep hit to the far left of the screen and force all the enemies to keep their attention on you. The final wave has Troll that will kill your NPC very quickly if he is nearby. Just run in circles around the troll and continuously stick and move to keep him away from the ally.

After this, there is only one more problematic part. This is the Totem Boss. The boss is a bit of a pain in the ass since: you still have lower level gear, you have less skills/stats, the does a good bit of damage, and the boss has ability to regenerate. But the biggest issue is that there is a SERIOUS GLITCH in the game that is game ending. If you lose at this boss fight, the game may continue you at the beginning of the level, but the switches to reach the end no longer work. You will be forever stuck. So, having said that. Try very, very hard not to lose.
You can take your time if you need and take breathers to regenerate your HP and learn the boss patterns (not too hard to do). Most importantly, don't get impatient. Don't take big risks and try to get an extra hit in if it risks you taking damage.

After you beat the Totem Boss, the 'Hard' game mode becomes exponentially easier.

Hopefully you played the game previously on an easier difficulty and have an idea what to expect for the rest of the game.

The final boss (Goblin Mecha) is a bit of a pain to beat with the Vanguard class. Aim for its feet while moving diagonally downwards and then use a (hopefully leveled up) Rush Attack (cn_A) through the boss for an extra hit and to get away from him. The boss has two attacks that can nearly insta-kill you if you aren't careful; the drill melee attack and the flamethrower attack. As long as you stick and move, you should be able to avoid these.

If you stand away from the boss at the top of the screen, he will have a tendency to get 'stuck' and not hit you. This is great for regenerating your HP/MP.

This fight may take about 30 mins, but very manageable as long as you don't make many serious mistakes. Also, if you do lose, you will restart right at the beginning of the boss fight.
