The Battle of Kasserine pass is the 3rd of 3 missions in the Desert War – Axis Campaign. The mission has a lot of tank waves making proper prepositioning important. The Challenge mode makes micromanaging ammo usage crucial. Doctrine:
For the Challenge mode supply is probably your best bet, because emergency supplies let tanks add 50% ammo/fuel to their starting 25% fuel, 15% ammo and you get a supply truck on the Italian side with full ammo supply. For the 3-star its less important, but lots of tank battles so armored makes it more fun. Tips:
1. Pause. The ability to pause (back button, not menu) and still give commands can maximize target priority in the middle of battle conserving precious ammo.
2. Save often on your 3-star run. Because reasons.
3. Never attack head on. Every defense position has a way to flank it lowering losses which is extremely important on the final objective.
4. Take your time. All enemy attacks are dependent on you triggering them, so take your time to set up for all attacks. Objective 1:
Destroy 2 defense positions. Your forces start split between the north and south which cannot group up until the south point is taken. There’s also a small position directly north of the south starting force.
Break through the second line of defense. Reinforcements from the south along with a large counter-attack immediately. There are smaller forces in the south-west corner, center along main road, northern middle by building and a well, and in the ruins in north-west corner. Sandstorms appear restricting visibility and damaging vehicle engines.
Occupy Kasserine Pass. There is 2 counter-attacks, 1 right at the beginning heads to the ruins from Kasserine Pass (4 tanks plus infantry), the other when you hit defense lines and comes in from the south-west (10 tanks including 2 Churchill heavies plus infantry). There’s 2 passes north and south for infantry which must be used to neutralize heavy artillery.
I lost 45 Infantry and 14 vehicles to a variety of things mostly during objective 3 and got the 3rd star while removing the heavy artillery of objective 3.
