This is the 2nd of 3 missions in the Desert War – Allied Campaign. Challenge mode doesn’t add much difficulty to the mission, while to get 3-stars requires a lot of extra work. Doctrine:
Either infantry for more infantry to counter elite infantry in challenge mode or armored for the benefits fighting tank waves. Tips:
1. Save often on your 3-star run. Because reasons.
2. Airstrikes. They can do a lot of damage, but you need to avoid the AA-gun line along the west edge of the map.
3. Badges. For your 3-star run you need a lot of badges to earn enough and counter any losses you take. Objective 1:
Destroy heavy artillery positions. You have unlimited shots, but only allowed 2 missed shots before mission failure, so you can destroy other units first lowering potential losses on the 3-star run, but can limit badges earned. During challenge mode the extra units don’t matter, because you don’t fight them so use your spare shots at the defenses you’ll attack for Objective 2. Objective 2:
Attack the South front. Your allies will take the brunt of the attack letting you hit with minimal losses
Attack he North front. Doesn’t matter where you attack, as soon as your far enough west it triggers the next objective.
Defend against 4 waves of German attacks. You gain more air support for each wave, but you need to retreat far enough so they don’t get shot down immediately.
Break through the second defense line. Flanking around the north will prevent the retreating forces from the previous objective from Interfering.
I lost 10 tanks and 61 infantry, most to a tank rush at the end. For 3-stars I lost less but still earned 3rd star before pushing final objective.
