How to unlock the Getting Your Feet Wet achievement

EDIT: There seems to be a delay for this achievement to pop. Please allow an overnight delay irl before expecting this achievement to unlock.

    EDIT [20 Dec 2021]:

Based on recent comments… it sounds like the Subnautica opening sequence has changed.

I completed Subnautica years ago, so I haven’t seen how the opening sequence unfolds in its current form. My apologies for this.

But this is a straight forward unmissable achievement, so this won’t complicate the solution.

    Solution
As long as you get into the sea / exit your Lifepod for the first time at the beginning of the game, this achievement will unlock.

    Original opening sequence
In the original state of the game, the opening sequence had you buckling in to your Lifepod whilst the Aurora is crashing on to this unknown planet. The crash landing gets chaotic, and a metal panel gets ripped off the wall and hits you in the face, causing you to blackout.

When you wake up, your Lifepod was on fire, and there’s a fire extinguisher you needed to use to put the fire out.

Once you’d extinguished the fire inside your Lifepod, you were then able to exit the Lifepod for the first time. Which popped this achievement.

    Original Solution:

    Very easy and unmissable achievement.

Play on Survival, Freedom or Hardcore Mode.

After the opening cutscene has ended you will regain consciousness to find your Lifepod is on fire. Pick up the fire extinguisher off the floor and use RT towards the flames to extinguish them. Your fire extinguisher has a limited usage so don’t be wasteful with it.

Now you can go underwater for the very first time, and this achievement will unlock.

To go underwater you’ll need to exit your Lifepod. You can exit your Lifepod two ways.

You can interact with the ladder in the middle of the Lifepod to climb up it and exit through the door at the top of the Lifepod. You will then need to dive down into the water.

Or you can interact with the door on the floor to exit through the bottom of the Lifepod. You will immediately be underwater by exiting this way.

Please Note: I was playing on Freedom Mode (similar to Survival Mode, but without the requirement to maintain hunger and hydration levels).

All achievements can be obtained in Freedom mode.

pathOfKarnageAnyone able to help? Ive followed the guide exactly but nothings unlocking. Achievements appear to be glitched for me....

Any tricks to get this to work cause ive now completed the game twice and still cant get anything to unlock i left overnight nothing popped.

Should i just leave the console on for a few days with the game on or can i leave off and it will just unlock magically one day?

ell635You don’t have to keep the game open. You can close the game and if it’s an delayed achievement unlock issue they can sometimes pop overnight. No idea why this happens sometimes, hasn’t happened for me in years though. I recommend you contact Xbox Support if this problem persists to see what steps you can take to fix the issue.

Have you completed the game using the walkthrough which helps you fast-track the 1000G? Because I’m wondering whether that has been patched if you’re not popping the achievements.

Try popping this achievement genuinely since it only takes 5 mins or less, and if it pops then you might not be able to fast-track the 1000G anymore.

    Hope the above helps.

pathOfKarnageEven genuinely they wouldnt pop. Overnight still didnt pop. Turns out 4 days later and its showing up as being earned... very odd.

bluedemon218@pathOfKarnage Im not getting any Achievements. I'm guessing I'd get 800g guess I know I missed one or two but nothing has happened even when I played it on my PC seeing if that would make a difference. If I have to wait "4" days later too then I'm willing to.

SXRguyinMAMy game didn't go this way at all. My life pod fell and crashed and was on fire but I didnt lose consciousness. The character kicked the door open to escape the flaming pod and got out and then I got control. Ran to the water and dove in to get to the drop pod. Got into that and the achievement for that popped (Drop in the Ocean which I don't even see in the list of achievements) but that's it

ell635Based on the last two comments… it sounds like the Subnautica opening has changed.

I completed Subnautica years ago, so I haven’t seen how the opening sequence unfolds in its current form. I’m sorry that my guide doesn’t reflect the opening sequence accurately anymore. I’ve updated my guide with edited comments to acknowledge this. Thanks to both comments above for bringing this to my attention.

As long as you enter water for the first time / exit the Lifepod at the beginning of the game, this achievement will unlock.
