The opportunity to do this comes right after completing the puzzle using all 6 of the chess pieces to unlock a new door. Since this is highly missable, it is recommend that you make a manual save in case you miss it.

Proceeding through the new doors will start this boss fight. During phase 1, run around the room avoiding the fire on the ground, and dodging the ceiling attacks. Once G enters the room, leave out the door he came through, moving onto the crane platform. Move the crane to start the fight. At this point, damage G, and down him at least 2 times (on assisted) or 4 times (on normal), to the point that his eye is dark red and at a certain point Leon will say "Bet I can use the crane", and then down him somewhere near the middle of the platform.

Once this happens, quickly interact with the crane to finish the fight using only one crane use.

dylan is white@GoGoActionTeam, I, too, had to down him 4 times. Also playing on Normal too.

Also, if you don't have a lot of ammo, the knife does surprisingly a lot of damage to him. I had to make do with what they gave me, plus 3 MAG ammo. Annoying, but did it.

OurEvilLetterP7For the record CLaire can make the comment about the crane and it not be enough. Annoying. I missed my first time and hoped it would still count as the time I got was still technically the first time the crane hit him. It didn't count. Then I hit him in my first attempt right after Claire makes that crane comment. It wasnt enough though. I wonder if his placement matters? Near the edge?

Crims0nScorpionnote for when Birkin is attacking through the ceiling, if you stay in the corner to the left of the door you run through after Birkin busts it down you can just stay there and not take damage, good tip for the 14,000 steps achievement as well

Best done with Leon (Assisted or Standard mode), but you NEED the flamethrower with a full clip (400 ammo I think) :

-At the beginning of the checkpoint, press the button to send away the crane.
-Grab the flash grenade to the right of the button and equip it in the inventory.
-Face the boss, throw the grenade, making him blind.
-Equip the flamethrower and empty your entire clip at him: he should get on his knee and not move the whole time.
-Once he's toast, press the button. Don't hesitate to just another flash grenade if you have one to keep him in the crane's trajectory.

The first thing I did was run over and hit the button to start the crane, which moves the large crate out of the way to give you more room to avoid the monster's attacks. I then equipped the magnum and shot him in the eye on his left arm. It usually takes two shots in the eye to knock him down. I then waited until he got back up and did the same thing. Eventually, after knocking him down 4 times, the next magnum shot took him down in one shot to the eye. At this point, I ran to the crane controls and hit the button, ensuring I stayed in front of the controls in order to avoid the swinging crate, and when the crate swung around it hit the monster killing it in one swing. Gotcha!

BL4DESame experience I'll add I was on assist mode for this one. After the 4th down with magnum shot the crane took him out. Leon did say "I'll use the crane" at about 2-3 downs but at 2 and 3 for me the crane didn't kill him

Faustus PHDI should have added that I was on the standard mode; I'm sure it differs by difficulty. It is good to know that the pattern is the same on each difficulty. It seems that it takes one or two more downs after Leon or Claire say to "use the crane".
