Performing the backstep/dash is easy enough - just hit
! I believe you just have to travel over 100m which can be done easily enough in a couple minutes. Mine unlocked naturally exploring the first map.
To check how far you’ve traveled, enter the pause menu and go to Archives > Personal Data. This will also help towards other achievements for distance traveled, map completion, etc.
