Since there's no alternate way to obtain this like the 360... here we go, Tex...

A New Career play-through on Casual is recommended. This is ONLY if you're not attempting this your first play-through. Redoing the levels will only increase the damage costs (thanks KinjoTheTaken for bringing that to my attention.) Enemies do less damage to you, and your time will mostly be spent reviving the others, looking on or assisting in trapping. That shouldn't stop you from throwing your own Proton Stream in a ghost's direction if you are able and careful enough to assist. Good thing is, whatever the other Ghostbusters destroy does not reflect on you.

Here's some notable areas per level.

Firehouse: You will likely destroy some of the boxes in the basement chasing Slimer & The Sloth Ghost during your Training.

Sedgewick (Both): Let Stanz take the damage from the flying furniture (sorry Ray) after you exit the elevator by standing by Peter. Leave the bellhops to Ray, Egon and Peter. On your way to the ballroom, Peter can deal with the ghost fish. A fridge might cost you a few hundred to clear a path to the ballroom, though. Allow Venkman his payback on Slimer and if you're going for the artifact in there -- you won't be dinged much. The Candle Spiders, on your way to Pappy Sargassi, appear near furniture so it's advised to aim down to deal with those or lure them to a non cluttered area. During the Boss fight, like the lobby, let the other three do most of the streaming since there's a ton of furniture in the restaurant. If you move around enough, Sargassi will end up destroying everything in the center of the room trying to get to you or your teammates.

Upon the "Return" trip, like before, the others can tackle the paranormal in the lobby & the kitchen. Your trek to the Spider Witch has easily disposable enemies and the encounter is simple if you meet her at ground level.
Note: If you're collecting the artifacts again, the fridge hiding one (or next to that one) might take some damage (nothing substantial.... only a couple hundred) depending on how you go about obtaining it.

Times Square and The History Museum: These are grouped together due to how vital they are to your success. Allow Venkman and Zeddemore to handle the lion's share of the work in both places (prior guides mention these levels put a damper on things if errors are made -- and they are right.)

Along Times Square, slam the Gargoyles against the buildings. In the streets, the drafting room and hall afterwards with Ray before finding Ilyssa, aim at the floor for the Marshmallow Minions. This is beneficial especially in the street seeing as there are cars surrounding you at every turn. Simply keep up with Ray (in case he needs reviving) & keep an eye on Stay Puft (so you're not turned into jelly.)
Note: It's possible to gain property damage using the Boson Dart to get Ecto through the alley. If you help Winston, only a couple hundred gets added.

After you crash the party at the Museum, Slime Tether is handy with the Possessors and the Civil War Ghosts. When dealing with the Possessed Statues you can aim for their feet with the Slime Blower if you chose to assist Peter and Winston. In the room with the temple, Slime Blower works wonders & The Egyptian room isn't a hassle either as you aim for the floor. Your comrades will wipe-out the flying skulls in both rooms with their Statis Blast.

Library: The Book Construct in the large room can add varying amounts depending on how you approach it. Have Spengler and Stanz do most of the busting before you three get separated and when you're tracking Elinor Twitty in the basement. Allow Ray to bust the two ghosts after he slides down the chute when he finds you. The Coal Golems are easy to deal with if taken care of right away.
Note: Destroying books accidentally, blasting the blocked door open to scan the Panda in the Children's Room and the chair keeping the door to the Calendar Artifact closed add small increments to your total. Nothing too big.

Ghost World, Ghost Sewers (Chairman Boss Area), Lost (Shandor) Island & Central Park Cemetery: Nothing destroyed at these locations effect the total.

In the end, you'll be able to end with much less than $100,000 in damages.
I ended up with only $13,675 in damages with these totals (as an example):
    Firehouse: $1232
Hotel Sedgewick: $3052; Return to: $2031
    Times Square: $935
    Public Library: $4496
    History Museum: $1929
Lost Island / Central Park Cemetery both: $0

If this can be improved on, feel free to add tips in the comments. Happy hunting & busting!

ShaunMichaels83I hadn't thought bout that but I just tried with the Firehouse. Only increases the total since it's the same playthrough. I'll add that in. Thanks

The SCHWARTZ 00It's stupid that you have to go through the whole game again for the achievement. Once you get to Lost Island, there's no way to cause environmental damage for the rest of the game anyway. It should pop right after the Return To Sedgwick chapter. /rant

ryaN 299This achievement is pure crap. Have to restart the game 3 times bc of hitting one thing that starts a chain reaction. Your teammates do nothing to help get you through the game.

SeeWaffleRunLoading a checkpoint will not reset the value. But if you notice yourself doing a lot of damage, you can force quit the game. When you load it back up, your total damage should be what it was before doing the large amount of damage. This is especially helpful in Times Square and the History Museum.

It may set you back a ways, but it beats the hell out of restarting the game

Guirec730For reference, a cannon in the civil war section is worth 20k. Gotta be careful in there
