Collect 5 mysterious alien artifacts. They are hot to the touch, and smells faintly of...tarmac?

How to unlock the What Are These Things? achievement

    Actions
    Has a 1 in 26 chance of appearing. Will be buried into the rock with lightly glowing spikes around the surface. Your achievement progress will likely bug out at some point, and you will likely have to collect more than 5. Sometimes the counter resets when GSG release an update.

    December 2020: You can also find these in presents during the winter event. You can get multiple in every match, so this is the easiest way to complete this. Obviously this is time limited.

    This achievement cannot be influenced or gamed in any way, it's purely random. It could take you 5 hours or 500 depending on luck.

    death metal jayUnfortunately for me I'm yet to get any out of presents, but I know I've had more than 10 throughout my time playing. Bugged maybe?

    Lonewolf470Yes all of the collectible achievements are bugged. Your counter can sometimes reset when they drop a new patch.

    Moldy Tacos5000Does this track achievement wise like some of the other collectibles? Found one last night and progress didn't update.

    SaberRustyI have 8 all together. I've found 2 with friends in the last month and another 2 in the last few days with this year's Christmas event, but it's still stuck at 4 in the tracker.
    Seems like it does pop eventually so I'll just keep mining!

    JayCubzIm 1 away and ive been hosting games with the mineral mania mutator. Not sure if that increases the chances, but i have found 2 more bittergems since. And if you didnt know, you have to be in the game before 1 is looted. Ive joined many games where 1 was looted before i joined and it didnt count.
