To earn this achievement, you must beat all teams in each set on Hall of Fame difficulty, as well as earn the MT goal stated.
This has been written before the final set has been released, but tips/guide is unlikely to change.
The first four sets, up to and including the heat check set, are fairly straightforward and should be beatable for most players without reading below. However if you do struggle with these feel free to continue.
On HoF difficulty, 3pt shooting is inconsistent. Unless you can comfortably green every other shot, the output just isn't enough. You will score roughly 1/3 when wide open without a perfect/green release. This won't keep up to speed with your opponent. The key to winning and earning MT is through dunking and driving to the rim.DEFENSE
Dunking is easiest through transition breaks. Therefore good defense is necessary to create these chances. The following settings have kept the CPU to around 40/50 points in the Mystery set:
Both screens: Go over
Drive help: No help
I personally then have user controlled the defender facing the ballhandler. You can instead control your centre, but I strongly suggest switching to the on-ball defender before they shoot, as the defensive ai tends to give a lot of fouls when defending.
The main other defense tip is utilising bump steals. These are easy enough to do, stealing the ball from the ball handler just before mid-court. I first learned how to do this using this video:
Usually I can get 15-20 a game, scoring off almost all of them. Even if you can only manage 5 or so, it can swing a game for you if you are otherwise struggling when defending them.OFFENSE
Outside of transition dunks, you can regularly get good dunk looks using the Knicks playbook. Fist 21 delay works almost every time for me and is simple to run. You pass to your SG who then passes back to the PG when they run to the rim.
You can also 5-out every possession and use 'speed glitch' also known as 'speed boost' with certain ball handlers. Here's how:
Remember to change one of your freestyle's to Hawks 2018 (you do not need to use the playbook) and then select it when on offense. Then run 'pass and screen away' but don't actually pass. This will leave you 1-on-1 with everyone else behind the 3pt line. TEAM BUILDING
Lastly, in terms of players. Obviously these games are easier with better players, but as the offensive approach is fairly simplistic, you can get away with just good defenders. Here's a cheap lineup I've tested and managed to win a few mystery set games on HoF with:
PG: Jason Kidd (Pink diamond)
SG: Malik Sealy (Pink diamond - incredible)
SF: Antawn Jamison (Heat check set reward)
PF: Domantas Sabonis (Pink diamond)
C: Mark Eaton (Pink diamond)
EDIT: The above team is a little outdated, but will still work for the mystery set. Alternatively, some further (and now budget) suggestions would be:
PG: Chris Webber (Galaxy Opal); Ben Simmons (Pink diamond)
SG: Billy Owens (Galaxy Opal); Trevor Ariza (Pink Diamond)
SF: Andrew Wiggins (Pink Diamond); Thaddeus Young (Ruby)
PF: Aleksej Pokusevski (Pink Diamond); Precious Achiuwa (Amethyst)
C: Eddy Curry (Diamond)
Find what players work for you and your playstyle. The guys above are just solid defenders with good dunking for my suggested strategy.
Bench shouldn't matter as you can spam timeouts just after half time to recover stamina.
Will update this guide for the final set if required, however I suspect the same general tips will apply, as HoF sliders don't change.
Good luck with the grind!
