Nearing end game, instead of driving into the city for the New Year, if you look behind the tree in Alex's front yard you'll find someone there. Now go to your computer, read the special email and leave out the backdoor of the house. You should now have access to the van again allowing you to to go to the KNN building.
**NOTE** Remember to make a second save to get both endings in a single playthrough!
